    Still more quotes from content geniuses in the third edition of The Content Advantage! Interest in AI's potential is as strong as ever, and seasoned leader Susanna Guzman (CPACC) Guzman shares an upside you might not have thought of. "One of the biggest opportunities that I see for generative AI is that business leaders who think through the tool's risks and rewards can't help but come to a deeper understanding of what content is, how pervasive it is within a business, and how much the employee experience and customer experience depend on it." It will be hard for any business leader to avoid this understanding of content as they get serious about implementing AI at scale. And when you factor in Gartner's recent finding that 80% of businesses consider themselves to be competing MOSTLY on customer experience (CX), the stakes for how AI affects content in CX become even higher.     ?? 3 months ago, the 3rd edition of The Content Advantage hit book retailers! Happy book-aversary!! In such a short time, the new edition is already making an impact.     The more things change, the more they stay the same. That sentiment rushed to mind when I recently came across one of the magazines I worked on as an intern in 1997, Corporate Online. Spun up by Investor Relations Media (which is still going strong), the magazine was ahead of its time in covering the intersection of business and internet tech. Businesses weren't quite ready for it, but I'm grateful I was a part of it. I'm shocked by how nearly 30 years later, we're back to the same problems and challenges. Check out the cover. >> E-cash or Credit? - How do we handle payments online? Today we're facing a similar tension between new fintech and more established payment methods. (Perhaps crypto should rebrand as e-cash. ?? ) >> Banner Ads + Results - What digital ads work? How do we know? Many still grapple with those questions, and the answers aren't getting any easier with the disruption and complexity around search and social now. As Marc S. Pritchard of Procter & Gamble said at his keynote of the 2024 ANA conference: "The effort we go through to see if media drives sales is way too complex, and it takes too much time and money.” >> Bad Company. Can You Trust the Web? For many at the time, the answer was "not sure." There were many legitimate concerns about security and more. Big brands and companies didn't want to be associated with something sketchy. Unfortunately, the answer today is quickly becoming "no." A few facts pulled from our State of Content webinar and 50 Crucial Content Facts infographic: >> Americans lost $10 billion to digital fraud and scams in 2023 (FTC) >> 44% of videos about sinusitis (a low-controversy topic) on TikTok contain misinformation (University of Chicago) >> 75% of consumers feel less favorable toward brands advertising on sites / platforms with misinformation (Adweek) >> 59% of people globally are concerned about what news on the internet is real vs fake (Reuters Institute) At the same time, safeguards are weakening. Meta has pulled back on fact checking; Google is struggling to filter the influx of low-quality content; the U.S. president is threatening to cut funding to agencies that protect consumers from fraud. The decimation of trust online has consequences. As an example for the short term, smart brands will put pressure on digital / social / search / AI platforms and governing bodies to clean things up. As both an advertiser and an orchestrator of digital CX, brands face tough challenges to operate safely and consistently online. Ultimately, the lack of trust could lead to most people no longer going online. So we go back to faxing? (At least that meets HIPAA requirements.) I, for one, did not work my entire career in the digital space to see it wasted. This mag cover boosts my resolve! (If you read this far, you're a trooper!
