“Olivia Erlanger’s work has been probing the difficult question of how our most private, internal, and psychological lives are shaped and reshaped by forces completely outside of ourselves.” says writer and critic Chris Kraus in her ‘If Today Were Tomorrow’ essay featured in the new exhibition catalogue of the same name. Kraus has written extensively about contemporary visual art. Her work has been widely translated, and her first novel, 'I Love Dick', was adapted for television and starred Katherine Hahn. Kraus will discuss her work's overlap with Erlanger's, teasing out themes of femininity, aliens, and a shared love of appliances. Visitors are invited to CAMH on Thursday, October 17, 2024 from 6:30–8PM for a conversation between Chris Kraus and artist Olivia Erlanger for the catalogue launch of Olivia Erlanger: If Today Were Tomorrow. Catalogues will be available to purchase on-site and visitors will have the opportunity to have their catalogue signed by the artist. This event is FREE to attend but RSVP is recommended. Last month concluded artists Tay Butler and Lovie Olivia’s time as CAMHLAB Artists-in-Residence, which included two immersive and interactive events at CAMH that invited visitors to explore each artists unique practice and explain their art-making experiences, discoveries, and connections with Houston Freedmen's Town. ?? We thank each artist for their time and dedication to the #RebirthInAction initiative and look forward to seeing them continue to flourish as artists in our community. #TrustArtists ??
