I recently had the honor of delivering a keynote speech at Consult Your Community's National Conference. CYC is a nonprofit with 25+ chapters across the US dedicated to providing pro-bono consulting for small diversity-owned businesses. Having been a part of CYC during my time at Emory, I knew it was my turn to give back to the organization and its students. Figuring out what one should do with their life is a challenging and ongoing process - one that I’ve been learning a lot over the past years. This time I had the opportunity to share stories with the students about two skills that have been incredibly useful for me in this journey: self-awareness and grit. We're in the news! Over the weekend at Emory University's beautiful campus, over 200 BIPOC-owned small businesses and our nonprofit student volunteers from 7 universities (Emory University, Georgia Institute of Technology, North Carolina State University, Seton Hall University, Baruch College, Southern Methodist University, Binghamton University) flew or drove in for our second ever national conference to celebrate a decade of impact. From England, Texas, New York, and Massachusetts, people came from far and wide to celebrate Atlanta's small businesses and Consult Your Community's impact. We were joined by powerful leaders like Stacey Abrams, GA State Representative. Mesha Mainor, two-time presidential appointee Cassius F. Butts (former Regional Administrator of the SBA) and the people that serve Atlanta's small businesses: Dan Gordon (former Chief Operating Officer of City of Atlanta), the SVP of Invest Atlanta, and the Director of Housing & Community Development for the City of Atlanta.
