Consul General Katherine Raeymaekers enjoyed being part of Global Atlanta's Consular Conversations series hosted at Miller & Martin PLLC. The questions raised by Trevor Williams covered a lot of ground ranging from what inspired Consul General Raeymaekers to become a diplomat, to how Belgium is dealing with the economic and political turbulence, and what the Consulate General of Belgium and the Belgian trade agencies are doing to position Belgium as an innovative hub and business leader in the Southeast of the USA. A huge congratulations to the Belgian teams behind the two Oscar wins tonight in Los Angeles! ?? ?? “Flow”, co-produced with Gregory Zalcman from Take Five and RTBF took home the Oscar for Best Animated Feature Film. ?? “I’m Not a Robot”, co-produced with Henry Gillet from The Y-house, was awarded Best Live Action Short Film. We also want to extend a big round of applause to all the Belgian-produced and co-produced nominees: “Soundtrack to a Coup d’Etat”, “Beautiful Men,” “Wander to Wonder,” and “Emilia Pérez.” We had the pleasure to celebrating 2 teams with some of our members at the invitation of the Consulate General of Belgium in Los Angeles and the Vlaams Audiovisueel Fonds. ?? What started in 1934 as a radio manufacturing company in Belgium called “Belgium American Radio Corporation, aka BARCO”, transformed 90 years later in one of the world’s leading advanced visualization companies active in a variety of sectors going from healthcare to control room fitting, from videowalls to cinema system and to event and entertainment industry. During her visit to the Belgian company Barco’s headquarters in the USA, based in Duluth, consul General Katherine Raeymaekers got informed about all these different activities and the large numbers of innovations making them top of their business. Among others she learned about the state-of-the-art invention in medical imaging, making it possible to safe lives with one look thanks to their extremely high-resolution displays. She was also informed about the different types of large-scale videowalls and even that BARCO won the prestigious Scientific and Engineering Academy Award at the Oscars last year for their contribution to the design and development of laser projection in cinema. So should you see any digital imaging in the USA, most probably BARCO had something to do with it. ??To underline Belgium’s strong commitment when it comes to education, innovation, and global cooperation, Consul General Katherine Raeymaekers had the pleasure, last week of connecting with various educators and outstanding academic institutions in Georgia through a series of exciting events! To start, a reception at the Belgian Residence with various Belgian professors, European affiliated faculty, and key stakeholders in higher education allowed to discuss opportunities for student exchange and grassroot collaboration between Belgian and USA professors. ?????????? Afterwards she visited Georgia Institute of Technology and Emory University, two world-class institutions, to learn more about their ongoing projects and goals, and to discuss how we can strengthen our academic cooperation and relations. ???? Consul General Katherine Raeymaekers had the pleasure of visiting Atlanta Tech Village, one of the top startup hubs in the USA and a key driver of tech innovation in Georgia. ATV is home to more than 300 startups and a thriving community over 1200 "villagers", fostering innovation and collaboration. ATV continues to expand its impact with a new location in downtown Atlanta since beginning 2025. ?? The visit also highlighted the Belgian connection with ATV. Among them, Presso?, a Belgian-founded company, who successfully graduated from ATV, and Sensolus, another Belgian startup currently part of ATV’s dynamic ecosystem. It's exciting to see how international entrepreneurs, including those from Belgium are leveraging ATV's resources to scale their businesses in the USA! ???? ?? ????
