  • On November 7th, the Consulate General of Brazil in San Francisco had the great opportunity to attend the Japan Innovation Campus (JIC) 2024 Autumn Showcase. We had an incredible time learning about the Japanese-American innovation ecosystem, both abroad and here in Silicon Valley, as well as hearing 8 pitches from phenomenal startups incubated at the JIC in a wide range of fields, including robotics (Kailas Robotics), healthtech (KORTUC INC.), and innovative AI (Qlay). This event was especially meaningful as it also marked the one-year anniversary of the JIC’s inauguration. We would like to extend our heartfelt congratulations to our peers at the Consulate-General of Japan in San Francisco, METI, Mori Building, and JETRO for their outstanding work in establishing and managing the JIC, as well as to all the startups and community members who are part of this exceptional institution. We look forward to the continued growth of the Japanese innovation ecosystem here in the Bay Area and to potential future Brazil-Japan collaborations! Today, I had the privilege of representing Brazil in a panel with experts from Norway, Israel, France, and India at the Evolve event in Santa Clara. I shared insights on Brazil as an innovative nation with a dynamic entrepreneurial landscape, a strong consumer market, a young population eager for new technologies, and one of the cleanest energy matrices globally. Building on these aspects, I discussed the launch of the Brazilian Artificial Intelligence Plan (PBIA), which aims to position Brazil as a global leader in AI, focusing on Portuguese-language AI models, enhancements in public services, and fostering innovation across sectors such as health, education, and public security. I also had the opportunity to explain a little bit about Brazil's Diplomatic Innovation Program (PDI). As Head of the Science, Technology, and Innovation Sector at the Consulate General of Brazil in San Francisco, my role is to act as a bridge between Brazil and Silicon Valley’s thriving innovation ecosystem, fostering the exchange of knowledge and IP and promoting our vibrant Brazilian entrepreneurial landscape, which is already home to 31 unicorns and over 20,000 startups. The event was an excellent opportunity to connect with experts from other countries, especially from India, and to promote Brazil’s strengths in innovation, forging paths for future collaboration.
