At Construction Ready, we believe the skilled trades should be just as celebrated as careers requiring a four-year degree. That’s why we train people for great-paying, entry-level construction jobs — so they can earn a comfortable living, do work they enjoy, and build fulfilling careers without the burden of student loan debt. We’re a 501(c)3 non-profit organization created in 1993 as the Construction Education Foundation of Georgia (CEFGA). In 2022, we became Construction Ready, a name taken from our flagship construction training program. Our organization came together when leading construction industry leaders recognized a need for quality construction skills training in Georgia. Skilled labor was then — and remains now — a primary need in the construction industry.

Last Thursday we welcomed some 150 students from three Atlanta Public Schools high schools for a “See It To Be It” tour of Mercedes-Benz Stadium. These behind-the-scenes events are designed for students who may not have such opportunities otherwise, giving them a look at the construction process through the eyes of those who built the stadium, particularly minority contractors. THURSDAY THRIVERS: Meet Bailee Stiles, a Fannin County High School senior who’s come a long way from being a shy and “standoffish” ninth-grader with “no idea what I wanted to do.” Since then she’s become a SkillsUSA champion, her school’s SkillsUSA club president, and a welding fabricator at a local company, Blue Ridge Manufacturing, making $21 an hour. “It’s wild to think back on,” Bailee says. Women in Construction Week Spotlight: Kaila Fallen, Elidia Miranda and Nadia Rojo were part of the Champions Panel Q&A we hosted at the SkillsUSA Georgia Champions Breakfast in Atlanta on February 21. In front of hundreds of SkillsUSA competitors, Kaila – a pipefitting apprentice with Batchelor & Kimball, Inc. – Elidia (Electrician Helper, Titan Electric Companies) and Nadia (Electrian Helper, Lanehart Electrical Companies) answered questions from Construction Ready CEO Scott Shelar, including one about the industry’s potential for lucrative pay. Kaila, a 2023 graduate of Newton College & Career Academy, said she has received additional pay for earning certain certifications, and she could be eyeing a six-figure income within the next three years. Nadia, a 2023 graduate of Berkmar High School, added that going the extra mile – “not necessarily just the work,” she said, “but your attitude and how you present yourself” – also can help boost a skilled worker’s pay. The message from the Georgia World Congress Center stage was clear: Women in construction are discovering rewarding careers at a young age. Today we hosted approximately 100 Clayton County Public Schools students for an in-depth tour of Mercedes-Benz Stadium, where they saw up-close the handiwork of diverse groups of skilled-labor professionals. The tour included a look at the work of MAREK, which built the stadium suites; and Engineering Glass Management (EGM), which installed the glass and windows at MBS.
