A huge shoutout to the CSRA's Evan Stoddard for successfully defending his thesis and earning his Master’s degree today! Evan played a key role as the lead research assistant for the CSRA Mental Health & Mental Wellness research projects, but his contributions extended beyond these projects, leaving a lasting impact across multiple research initiatives. Evan will now embark on an exciting career with the United States Air Force, where he will be working as a Civil Engineer Officer. Wishing you all the best in this next chapter, Evan! Your hard work and commitment are very inspiring. #ConstructionSafety #ConstructionResearch #MentalHealthResearch #USAirForce

The vision of the CSRA is to eliminate serious injuries and fatalities in the construction industry through transformative research and defendable science. Who is the CSRA? We are an alliance of industry leaders and experienced scientists who are focused on transformative construction safety research. The CSRA is a forum where we: ? Propose and test new safety ideas and innovations ? Invite industry members to actively participate in safety research ? Explore the efficacy of new safety technologies ? Network and share best practices ? Shape the next generation of safety researchers and practitioners Why the CSRA? The rate of serious injuries and fatalities has plateaued in the construction industry for nearly 20 years. The mission of the CSRA is to assemble industry leaders and world-class researchers to conduct collaborative research that eliminates these unacceptable life-changing events. What makes us unique? We are the only industry-funded research group focused exclusively on advancing the science of safety. Our industry-academic teams work together to understand industry needs, conduct field-based research in real-world settings, collect and analyze data, and share results. Who is involved? Our membership represents multiple construction sectors, including buildings; electric power generation and delivery; oil and gas; and infrastructure. How is the CSRA funded? The CSRA is funded by the generosity of our industry partners. We ask our members to consider a tax-deductible donation of $20,000 that supports graduate students, travel, equipment, and other resources needed to conduct impactful research. This funding enables us to recruit and retain the best research team and dramatically accelerates research output. We are always looking for energetic and passionate members, so please email Ayleen Perez ([email protected]) if you are interested in joining!

Congratulations to the CSRA's own Dr. Arnaldo Bayona, on successfully defending his PhD today and earning his doctorate! This achievement is a testament to Arnaldo’s dedication, perseverance, and invaluable contributions to advancing safety science in pursuit of our mission to eliminate SIFs in the construction industry.?His hard work and expertise have been an inspiration to our team, and we couldn’t be prouder of this milestone in his academic journey. A heartfelt thank you to the CSRA members who supported Arnaldo along the way. Your guidance and participation played a crucial role in this accomplishment. Wishing Arnaldo all the best as he embarks on the next chapter of his career.?#CSRAStudents #CSRAResearch #ConstructionSafety

?? Thank you to everyone who attended last week’s CSRA Community of Practice (CoP) session! We had an insightful discussion on The Tyranny of TRIR—how overreliance on this reactive metric can mislead organizations and hinder meaningful safety improvements. As our panel emphasized, moving beyond TRIR requires a shift in focus—from lagging indicators based on rare, statistically random events to proactive measures that focuses on SIF prevention and the presence of controls. Safety isn’t about chasing low TRIR numbers; it’s about preventing serious injuries and fatalities. A huge thank you to our incredible panelists all from CSRA's Board of Advisors, Al Payton, Matt Compher, CHST, OHST, CUSP, Greg Kelly, to the Vice Chair of our board Mike Quashne, CSP, CUSP, PMP for the research presentation and to our moderator Elif Erkal, PhD for leading this important conversation. If you missed the session or want to revisit the discussion, you can watch the video below! ?? Join us for our next CoP session to continue the conversation on reshaping safety measurement, this time with HECA on March 18, 2025. Have feedback or suggestions for future topics? We’d love to hear from you! Register for updates on the CoP website: https://lnkd.in/eAwe-9BE #SafetyLeadership #BeyondTRIR #SeriousInjuryPrevention #CSRA #CommunityOfPractice

In last week’s meeting, our industry partners and academic members worked to identify key factors that will drive the development of SIF-focused risk assessments. The team explored ways to integrate concepts like High-Energy Controls Assessment (HECA), alternative controls, and enterprise risk into a practical assessment process. We also discussed who should conduct these assessments, the optimal timing and frequency, and what outputs would be most valuable for improving serious injury and fatality (SIF) prevention efforts. #EBRA #EnergyBasedRiskAssessment #CSRAResearch #ConstructionSafetyResearch

The launch of our Talking Safety: Words that Work project at CU Boulder last week dove into the myriad ways we communicate safety.?The team set out their hopes and dreams for the project, and we developed some first-take research questions, highlighting aspects we want to focus on in-depth.??Discursively considering communication through how we say things, rather than just what we say, will enable the team to explore safety communication in highly nuanced and novel ways.?We want to make sure that whenever we talk safety we are helping reach the CSRA vision of SIF elimination across the construction industry. #CSRAResearch #ConstructionSafety #TalkingSafety

In yesterday’s meeting, our industry partners and academic members advanced our collective effort to understand which last-minute changes construction workers are able to identify. The team explored data collection approaches and brainstormed potential priming strategies designed to help workers better anticipate high-risk, last-minute changes on the jobsite. This collaborative discussion is a key step toward improving situational awareness and reducing serious injury and fatality (SIF) risk during dynamic work conditions. #CSRAResearch #ConstructionSafety #ManagingChange
