A fascinating discussion with our sponsors and partners over lunch at Barrafina Adelaide Street discussing how to promote investment in long-term marketing across the construction and built environment sector. The lunch followed a tour of the new venue for this year’s CMA Awards Gala Dinner where we will celebrate our 25th anniversary in style at 8 Northumberland Avenue, a Grade II-listed Victorian building in the centre of London, on Wednesday 3 December 2025. A big thank you to Holly Waters-Marsh from Urban Fox Marketing Europe Ltd for helping us frame the discussion and our community network plans as well as Kate Perrin from headline sponsors Barbour ABI for picking up the challenge to open the debate about market definition – ‘construction’ vs ‘built environment’. Amanda Long from the Code for Construction Product Information (CCPi) flagged upcoming big changes to the industry on the back of Dame Judith Hackitt’s review of #BuildingRegulations and #FireSafety set up in the wake of the #Grenfell Tower tragedy. The lively discussion also included interesting and insightful comments from Alex Aldous (Gleeds and Chair of CIMCIG),?Jeff May (Construction Products Association), Alexander Swann (Lesniak Swann - Cert. B Corp), Liam Bateman (The Think Tank), Anna Hern (Ridgemount), Elizabeth Zbaraska (Refresh), Amelia Spence (Fabrick), Martin Hurn (Futurebuild), Joe Cowling (SLG Agency) and Rob O'Connell (Fix Radio). #constructionmarketing #marketing #builtenvironmentmarketing

Can the construction industry shed its outdated image in 2025? Kate Perrin, Marketing Director at Barbour ABI, explores how rebranding "construction" as the "built environment" could transform public perception and attract the next generation of talent. From embracing sustainability, digitalisation, and design to showcasing the profound impact the industry has on people's lives, it's time to highlight how far we've come—and where we can go. This thought-provoking piece asks: can marketers play a key role in reshaping internal and external perceptions, shifting the narrative from "construction" to a future-ready, sustainable "built environment"?
