? Intern Research Spotlight: Elina Muminovic’s Reflections on Buen Vivir Elina is a current Master’s student at the Institut Barcelona d’Estudis Internacionals studying International Security. Since working at the Consortium, Elina has led our website outreach efforts and? has contributed to research on wellbeing economies, focusing on Buen Vivir. “I have zoomed in on the concept of Buen Vivir (living well) while exploring alternatives to the neoliberal status quo on development and growth over the past months. Rooted in Indigenous Andean worldviews, Buen Vivir centers collectivity, ecological harmony and social equity - advocating for a way of living in harmony with nature while proposing a new paradigm centered on wellbeing.” My research delved into institutionalized forms of Buen Vivir in Ecuador and Bolivia, where state-led initiatives have resulted in an appropriation of the concept (originally Sumak Kawsay), paradoxically using it to legitimize extractive practices. However, I also uncovered numerous examples of communities practicing Buen Vivir on a smaller scale. I found it fascinating how, in these cases, Buen Vivir not only redefines wellbeing but also highlights the importance of local knowledge and autonomy in shaping sustainable futures. They serve as a powerful reminder that alternative models of development already exist, and that genuine transformation often begins at the community level. Lastly, I was especially intrigued by the feminist literature I found on connecting capitalist, ethnic and gender struggles - and by how Buen Vivir may offer meaningful responses to these intersecting challenges.” ??To learn more about Buen Vivir, explore the resources available through the Consortium’s Research Hub here: https://lnkd.in/ehwZ64sb. ??One available resource on Ecuador’s Buen Vivir policy includes Sarah A. Radcliffe’s article, “Tackling Complex Inequalities and Ecuador’s Buen Vivir: Leaving No‐one Behind and Equality in Diversity”: bit.ly/4br7vtc. #BuenVivir #Wellbeing #InternSpotlight #Internship #Research

Developing feminist gendered analyses of armed conflict to build a sustainable international peace & planet.
关于我们
Founded in 2002, the Consortium on Gender, Security, and Human Rights develops and disseminates intersectional feminist and gendered research, workshops, pedagogical sources, and analyses that address the inequalities, marginalizations, and exclusions that underlie armed conflict. We focus on bridging the gap between the scholarly research, policymakers and practitioners, NGOs, and activists to engage with our forward-looking expert knowledge and policy recommendations to break through the limitations of the current “gender, peace, and security” agenda and build a sustainable and gender-just international peace and planet. On this International Day for Disarmament and Non-Proliferation Awareness, we want to call attention to the role of small arms and light weapons in women’s lives, and to highlight the work of The International Action Network on Small Arms (IANSA), especially their Women’s Network. They are the only global network focused on the links between gender, women’s rights, small arms, and armed violence. IANSA’s Women’s Network works to stop gun violence against women, whether at home, in public spaces, or in conflict zones. They advocate for gender-responsive arms control, ensuring that women’s voices and experiences shape disarmament and peace-building policies. Through research, advocacy, and direct engagement with policymakers and civil society, IANSA serves as a reminder that disarmament is not just about weapons—it’s about people, communities, and creating a safer world for all. Today is the International Day for Disarmament and Non-Proliferation Awareness ????? At the Consortium, we seek to bring knowledge about gender and security to bear on the quest to end armed conflicts and build sustainable peace. Disarmament and non-proliferation are key steps on the road to sustainable peace, and require feminist analysis. Indeed, the UN Office for Disarmament Affairs’ gender policy acknowledges that “disarmament, arms control, and nonproliferation efforts are strengthened when they analyze and apply a gender lens” (UNODA, 2021). Noora Chandasir’s 2023 paper “Feminine States and Masculine Arms: How Gendered Discourse Prevents States from Nuclear Disarmament” explores the inextricably gendered nature of nuclear security in the context of the Global South: bit.ly/3XiRboG. #Disarmament #GenderAndSecurity #NuclearPower

Despite a long history of militarized intervention and fossil fuel extraction, we have an opportunity to transition into a new era before things get more dangerous. For the Center for International Policy, MADRE Director of Policy Diana Duarte and Center for Biological Diversity Energy Justice Director Jean Su highlight the reckoning policymakers must face when addressing militarization's significant impact on the climate crisis and what it means to truly "go green." "We could imagine a future where we all not only enjoy safe, plentiful and regenerative energy, but where the way we create that energy is peaceful and rights-based." https://lnkd.in/eE9HPjcY
