Love, Anger, and Grief - three emotions that a lot of us have been contending with in queer and trans resource work in higher education for a long time, with recent events only serving to sharpen the feelings. We are existing in a state of heightened awareness and emotion, but are we able to express it? Can we connect over these emotions and process them together? Not always, but we will be able to during this year’s Virtual Drive-In. We are now accepting session submissions for the breakout workshops during the Virtual Drive-In on May 9th. Details are available in the form, https://lnkd.in/gf_ejUnm. Stay strong, everyone, and we look forward to reading your submissions.

On President Trump’s first day in office, he issued a number of executive actions impacting many communities, including those most at risk in our country. One executive action specifically targeted transgender, nonbinary, and intersex communities. This order is an attempt to control people’s freedom to be themselves. Trump wants to allow and encourage discrimination against trans people, and that’s exactly what this order is intended to do. The intent of this order is to cause chaos, and many of its requirements are inconsistent, unclear, and unworkable. Although the order isn’t law, it’s already impacting the lives of trans people across the country. We know you have questions about what this means for you, your families, and the people you care about. Please know that there are many organizations focused on understanding what this executive order does and doesn’t do as well as how to respond with lawsuits, community resources, and more. No matter what the policy of the federal government is, we know the value, dignity, and humanity of our communities and we will do whatever it takes to keep each other safe. Here’s what you need to know about President Trump’s Day 1 Anti-Transgender Executive Order: https://lnkd.in/eTvFndga

This week, the current U.S. president signed an Executive Order targeting trans and nonbinary people and communities. This is part of a coordinated attack on trans and nonbinary people.?Please check your membership-linked email to read our full response. As you navigate this political moment, we would like to uplift a few thoughts: ? 1?? No statement, executive order, court decision, or law can erase us or render our existences invalid. 2?? We must remember that executive orders are limited in scope and do not and cannot change existing laws. 3?? We must remember that many states have passed and will continue to pass their own laws that deeply impact our communities. 4?? We have been here before and history has taught us that we are resilient.
