Protecting pristine prairie in Texas. Partners, employees, local and state-elected officials, and community members gathered in Lamar County, Texas, this week to celebrate the official opening of our 468 MW Mockingbird Solar Center. A unique project in more ways than one – not only is it our largest operational solar farm, but it also represents a great example of collaboration to preserve an endangered habitat.?? During development, we joined forces with The Nature Conservancy to protect 953 acres of native tallgrass prairie adjacent to the solar farm – that’s the same size as over 700 American football fields. Tallgrass prairies provide habitats for all kinds of wildlife and play a vital role in water filtration, flood prevention, and carbon storage. However, less than 1 % of the original tallgrass prairies of Texas survive today, and less than 5 % remain throughout the U.S. “This project and partnership is something everyone in our community can be proud of,” said Mihir "Mark" Pankaj, Mayor of Paris. “Preserving natural habitat and generating clean energy is a win-win situation, and we appreciate ?rsted’s efforts to source from local businesses and support our local economy.” Read more here: https://lnkd.in/dcJcuXFX
