For William Chinana, interning at Pecos National Historical Park wasn’t just about preservation—it was about possibility! Coming from Jemez Pueblo, he saw an opportunity to connect with his community’s history while gaining hands-on experience in cultural resource management with the goal of getting a foot in the door within the park service. Through programs like Ancestral Lands Conservation Corps (ALCC) and the Traditional Trades Advancement Program (TTAP), William honed his skills in adobe preservation and built invaluable connections in the field. "I’ve learned so much more than I expected. Beyond the hands-on work, I’ve gained a deeper appreciation for the park’s history, the surrounding environment, and the local communities." Cheers to William, who recently signed on to be a TTAP Individual Placement again at Pecos in 2025! To read the full article ?? https://ow.ly/xJcS50Vgr2J

  • ?? We’re thrilled Southwest Conservation Corps is to be featured as the Word of Thanks Colorado Non-Profit of the Week with "Next with Kyle Clark" and 9News Denver! The Challenge: Due to federal budget uncertainty, SCC faces a $46,000 funding gap for its summer youth crews—putting these life-changing programs at risk. Without support, young people could miss out on valuable leadership experiences while our cherished landscapes go unprotected. With your help, we can bridge this gap. ?? Every dollar directly funds trail and habitat restoration. ?? Your support empowers youth to serve their communities and grow as leaders. To donate: https://ow.ly/YL9w50VjThG

  • In honor of AmeriCorps Week, we're proud to highlight the #AmeriCorpsImpact of our teams during the relief efforts after Hurricane Helene. Conservation Corps North Carolina and Southwest Conservation Corps joined the larger AmeriCorps network, with Disaster Response Teams deployed to North Carolina and Florida. A recipient of disaster assistance said, “Their hard work has not only helped us to moved forward to potentially restore our family home, it has also provided a sense of hope. It is because of volunteers like these young people that families and communities are able to rebuild, recover, and move forward. Their actions have set a truly powerful example of what it means to come together in the face of adversity.” This AmeriCorps Week, we celebrate the thousands of AmeriCorps members and AmeriCorps Seniors volunteers across the country making a meaningful difference, and we remain proud of the resilience and strength shown by our crews during times of crisis. • ?? When elected leaders champion national service, communities thrive. A standout moment from 2024 was Secretary of the Interior Deb Haaland’s visit to Ancestral Lands Conservation Corps following her announcement of a $480,000 grant for the Acoma Traditional Farm Corps. Since 2011, this program has been serving to revive agricultural knowledge, practices, and seed sovereignty while engaging local young people and providing healthy food for the community. On #MayorsDay, we celebrate mayors and local officials across the country who, like Secretary Haaland, recognize the power of AmeriCorps members to drive lasting change. From food sovereignty to disaster response to conservation, AmeriCorps members are on the ground every day, strengthening communities and shaping a more resilient future. #AmeriCorpsWorks #MayorsDay #ConservationInAction #NationalService

  • ?? AmeriCorps Works for our Partners! In celebration of Partner Appreciation Day, we want to highlight a recent champion, Bobby Hughes from EPCAMR, who sent us a heartfelt letter endorsing AmeriCorps programming. After speaking so highly of his two AmeriCorps members, Morgan Romanowski and Mark Jones, he went on to say: "EPCAMR is forever grateful and honored to host, sponsor, and supervise these positions. To lose either would be a terrible disservice to our coalfield communities because of their work ethic, tenacity, shared vision for EPCAMR’s mission and goals are vital to the future sustainability of our organization." Bobby, thank you for your unwavering support and for recognizing the incredible contributions of AmeriCorps members! On this Partner Appreciation Day, we also want to extend our gratitude to the thousands of partners and champions like Bobby who help expand the reach and impact of AmeriCorps. ??Congratulations to 2025 Corpsmember of the Year: HalieAnn Rex of Appalachian Mountain Club & Southwest Conservation Corps! HalieAnn Rex was a force of nature. HalieAnn joined the Corps world in 2022 after serving with Southwest Conservation Corps as a Crew Leader for both a youth crew and an adult fire mitigation crew in CO. She later joined the Appalachian Mountain Club (AMC) last spring as a Professional Trail Crew Leader for the Southern New England region where she excelled during AMC’s chainsaw training and Trails Skills College. HalieAnn was an exceptionally productive and inspiring Crew Leader. Although many of her Corpsmembers were originally hired for a short trail season, they had such a positive experience under HalieAnn’s leadership, that they all opted to extend their service into the fall. At the end of her service, HalieAnn intended to return to AMC in 2025 to continue her leadership journey. In the meantime, she returned to TN, where she was pursuing a master’s degree through the Family and Community Sciences Graduate Program at East Tennessee State University. She had also been hired as an Outdoor Graduate Assistant. Tragically, on October 12, 2024, HalieAnn was struck by a vehicle while riding her bike. She passed away five days later. In keeping with HalieAnn’s generous spirit, her organs were donated, helping save the lives of five patients. The Corps world is deeply saddened by HalieAnn's passing. In just 26 years, she experienced and contributed more in life than many people who live well into old age. HalieAnn loved public lands and was talented in many outdoor professional skills and connecting with others. Her legacy lives on through her loved ones and her countless contributions to her community. ?? “HalieAnn Rex was patient, kind, reliable, responsible, adventurous, playful, professional, creative, and so, so, so much more. Her spirit lives on in the hearts and minds of those she worked with, on trails in the switchbacks she carved, steps she built, and in the essence of our program.” Learn more about HalieAnn and her accomplishments: https://lnkd.in/gu5zY-Tz AmeriCorps / Conservation Legacy #CorpsCon25
