Shoutout to the Appalachian Conservation Corps (ACC) crews for their incredible service at Catoctin Mountain Park! Since 2022, ACC trail and invasive species crews have been restoring trails, managing invasive plants, and protecting the park’s natural and cultural resources. Trail crews have enhanced over 25 miles of hiking paths by constructing stone steps, filling erosion-caused holes with crushed rock, and building sustainable trail surfaces. Invasive plant crews have managed more than a dozen species across 100 acres of forest, focusing on imperiled plant communities near the Greentop Campground and promoting forest regeneration to combat climate change. ?? Meet Mason Bunker, serving as an AmeriCorps VISTA as Strategic Planning Coordinator for the National Parks of Boston Climate Conservation Corps! Mason is diving deep into projects that support climate resilience—from crafting a five-year strategic plan to mapping fieldwork sites and engaging with community partners. Growing up exploring national parks like Acadia, his love for conservation started young and led him to where he is today, helping shape climate response efforts with @nationalparkservice. Fun fact: Mason has a collection of Junior Ranger badges from parks across New England! Check out his story here ?? https://ow.ly/40Io50TVLBU AmeriCorps

Last week, Conservation Corps North Carolina and Southwest Conservation Corps were able to join the efforts of Hurricane Helene relief by sending out Disaster Response Teams to North Carolina and Florida, joining over 140 AmeriCorps members deployed to assist with recovery efforts. Our crews will be on the ground, providing vital support in debris removal, shelter operations, emergency supply distribution, and volunteer coordination to help local communities begin the long road to rebuilding. We are so proud and grateful for our crews across the country willing to step in during these critical times of need. As stated by CEO of AmeriCorps Michael Smith, “Our members are uniquely trained to respond to these situations, and their commitment to helping communities recover and rebuild after disasters – and in the months and years to come – is at the heart of our mission.” Conservation Corps North Carolina Southwest Conservation Corps AmeriCorps Voices for National Service

Grateful and proud of our incredible crews from Conservation Corps North Carolina and Southwest Conservation Corps on the ground providing essential hurricane disaster relief. Their resilience and dedication are a powerful reminder of the impact of service in times of need.???
Nearly 400 AmeriCorps members and AmeriCorps Seniors volunteers are supporting Hurricane Helene and Milton recovery efforts across Florida, Georgia, Virginia, and the Carolinas. AmeriCorps CEO Michael D. Smith shares about the importance of disaster recovery and its impact on communities: I'll never forget seeing AmeriCorps in action for the first time on the one-year anniversary of Hurricane Katrina. Long after the cameras had gone away in the year after Katrina, AmeriCorps members were still on the ground pulling the pieces back together, doing hard work to help communities grapple with the hurricane's devastation. Twenty years later, I continue to see our members' and volunteers' commitment to make a difference when Americans need it most. Currently, nearly 400 AmeriCorps members and AmeriCorps Seniors volunteers are serving in communities affected by the two devastating hurricanes. I met AmeriCorps members serving with FEMA Corps, an innovative, team-based national service program that provides 18 to 26‐year‐olds the opportunity to gain experience and training in emergency response while supporting immediate needs after a disaster for survivors and their communities. Members of AmeriCorps NCCC in North Carolina supported the initial disaster response, creating incident action plans, assisting disaster survivor services, building capacity for FEMA's National Incident Management Assistance Team, and more. Our members of AmeriCorps NCCC, Conservation Corps North Carolina, part of AmeriCorps Disaster Response Teams, which are our programs that are nationally deployable resources and recognized in the emergency management community as leaders in volunteer management, are working alongside agencies like the American Red Cross to support shelters, mucking and gutting of homes, removing debris, conducting needs assessments, and more. As our members have done so for the past 30 years, AmeriCorps will continue to answer the call and recruit more to serve in times of tragedy and triumph – and we will be there for our neighbors in need long after the storms have passed. Thank you to everyone who is helping our communities recover and rebuild. Bit.ly/BlogOct31 #NationalService #Helene #Disaster #Careers

Each brings a unique set of skills and expertise to help us expand opportunities for young people to engage in conservation across the nation. Our new board members dove right in, joining us at our October 24th board meeting in Shenandoah National Park, where they actively contributed to strategic planning, governance, and community engagement efforts. We’re still reeling from last week from Secretary Deb Haaland visit to our Acoma program. This visit was a part of the American Climate Corps Fall Tour supported by the Indian Youth Service Corps (IYSC) This initiative will be supported for years to come with a commitment of $15 million to strengthen the IYSC program and other corps programs for underserved communities. Secretary Haaland announced a $480,000 grant for the Acoma Traditional Farm Corps. This funding will further support our offices in Pueblo of Isleta and Pueblo of Zuni to establishing their own Farm Corps programs. Pueblo of Acoma Traditional Farm Corps - The Traditional Farm Corps program ALCC has run in Acoma since 2011, working to revive agricultural knowledge, practices, seed, and cultural perspective while working with local young people and providing healthy food for the community. Key aspects of the program include: ? Tribal Food Sovereignty ? Community Health ? Outdoor recreation (Hiking Club) ? Cultural Reconnection It was an honor to host Secretary Haaland in showcasing the incredible work of the Acoma Traditional Farm Corps. The day was filled with wholesome moments like harvesting a variety of traditional foods from the hoophouse with ALCC participants alongside our special guests from the local senior center. It is a huge blessing to celebrate and most importantly continuing the vital work ahead. After sharing a meal and making connections we concluded the day with a tour of Old Acoma. Thank you to everyone involved in this extraordinary day. #ClimateCorps #TribalFoodSovereignty #SecretaryHaaland #PuebloOfAcoma #AcomaTradition #IndigenousYouth #CulturalReconnection #OutdoorRecreation #CommunityHealth #AgriculturalRevival U.S. Department of the Interior
