Celebrate Native American Heritage Month with us! This month, we’re shining a spotlight on the impactful work of Indigenous-led organizations in our Friends Grassroots Network, like the incredible Indigenous Voices of Nevada.??? Indigenous Voices of Nevada (IVN) is empowering Indigenous communities across the state, amplifying their voices, and driving meaningful change. Earlier this year, we proudly awarded Taylor Patterson, IVN’s executive director, with our Betsy Buffington Advocate of the Year Award for her visionary leadership in the successful campaign to designate the Avi Kwa Ame National Monument in southern Nevada. In just a few years, Taylor has built a powerhouse organization addressing critical public lands issues—from National Monument campaigns to mineral withdrawals. Through it all, IVN centers Tribal Nations, ensuring they lead the decision-making and narrative, while nonprofits like ours learn and grow from their guidance. We’re honored to partner with Indigenous Voices of Nevada and support their ongoing efforts to strengthen connections and expand their statewide impact. Public lands are at risk ?? Our Nevada Program Director, Bertha Gutierrez, was featured in a recent Las Vegas Sun article highlighting Utah’s lawsuit to seize control of public lands managed by the Bureau of Land Management—a move that could set a dangerous precedent, threatening public lands across the West, including 41 million acres in Nevada. “This goes beyond just conservation groups,” Gutierrez explains. “This affects anybody that interacts with America’s public lands.” https://lnkd.in/gvkM5yVu

The path to protect public lands is never straightforward. Since 2007, the Conservation Lands Foundation has weathered constant political changes while defending public lands from dangerous attacks and achieving high-impact results: 11.5 million acres protected and counting. Now, as new challenges emerge, we need your support to continue defending and protecting the public lands that matter. During the last Trump administration, with your help, we fought tirelessly to restore protections for Bears Ears and Grand Staircase-Escalante National Monuments in Utah and other large-scale attacks on vulnerable lands and waters across the country.
