I recently had the privilege of attending the Conquer Cancer Scientific and Career Development Retreat, where I had the opportunity to present our work on finding locally tailored solutions for treating children with Burkitt’s lymphoma in Malawi. It was also an incredible honor to meet the Conquer Cancer Board and share my research journey with them, as well as to connect with one of the generous donors who helped fund my work. As a clinician-scientist, my ultimate goal is to develop sustainable, context-specific solutions for childhood cancer care in Sub-Saharan Africa. Lung cancer is by far the leading cause of cancer death in the US, accounting for about 1 in 5 of all cancer deaths. This year, about 234,580 new cases of lung cancer will be diagnosed. The good news is this number continues to decrease due to fewer people smoking and advances in detection and treatment. INNOVATIVE RESEARCH ALERT! TIME's Best Inventions of 2024 have been released and we are thrilled to share that a tool tested using a Conquer Cancer-funded grant was named to the list! Dr. Daniel King developed an AI-powered pancreatic cancer detection tool that analyzes reports derived from unrelated MRI and CT scans to identify patients at risk of pancreatic cancer, enabling faster diagnosis and treatment.
