From a brand new business to a thriving organization—celebrating 75 years of Conner Insurance! When the 4 Conner brothers bought the company from their father, Clay Sr., they had his 10-year roadmap and his unwavering support. They expanded to 5 branches with 60 employees but made the strategic decision to scale back to Indianapolis. Through it all, the brothers held onto their dad’s values of transparency, organization, and confidence, shaping the legacy we celebrate today. In 1973, the Conner brothers—Clay, Jack, Jim, and Tom—took a bold step by purchasing Conner Insurance from their father, Clay Sr. Conner. With Jim still a junior at IU School of Business and Tom in high school, they were building a business before even finishing school. 75 years ago, Clay Conner Sr. started Conner Insurance with a commitment to meeting his clients' growing needs. A WWII veteran and Duke graduate, Clay’s experience as a soldier—missing in action for over 3 years—shaped his view of life’s fragility. Known for his faith, Clay openly shared it with others, even hosting weekly Bible studies at home with prominent business leaders. His sons recall him as a man of deep intention and strong values, who believed in putting family first, including the family formed with employees and clients.
