Building a Healthier Connecticut
关于我们
Founded in 1919, the Connecticut Hospital Association (CHA) represents hospitals and health-related organizations. With more than 140 members, CHA is one of the most respected hospital associations in the nation. CHA’s mission is to advance the health of individuals and communities by leading, representing, and serving hospitals and their related healthcare organizations that are accountable to the community and committed to health improvement. CHA ACHIEVES THIS MISSION THROUGH: - Public policy and advocacy on behalf of the interests of hospitals and their related healthcare organizations. - Leadership and innovative services to further community-based healthcare delivery. - Strengthening ties and collaborative efforts with other organizations that have common values and aims. - Innovative research and education in the delivery and financing of healthcare services. - Leadership in fostering an environment within which integrated delivery systems can be created and thrive. - Assistance to the membership in ensuring quality, increasing efficiency and effectiveness, containing costs, and enhancing revenue. A Board of Trustees – composed primarily of acute care hospital CEOs as well as hospital trustees, clinicians, and other healthcare executives – governs CHA, determining policy and direction for the Association. CHA members play an active role in the organization, serving on standing and special committees and subcommittees to offer input on critical policy considerations and decisions on CHA activities and focus.

#WorldDoulaWeek is an opportunity to celebrate and thank doulas — trained professionals who work hand-in-hand with healthcare teams to provide birthing and postpartum individuals and their families with invaluable physical, emotional, and educational support. Connecticut hospitals and health systems recognize the importance of doula integration in hospital settings to foster positive birthing experiences for all. CHA is currently working to promote collaboration in the provider-doula relationship before, during, and after labor and delivery events in hospital settings. Through a partnership with the Fairfield County's Community Foundation’s Black Maternal Health Initiative, hospitals are building a community of practice and creating a doula-provider facilitated grand rounds training. This work to make hospitals more doula-friendly marks another milestone in continuous statewide efforts to improve maternal and child health outcomes and advance health equity. This month, CHA Vice President of Quality and Patient Safety Alison Vail and Director of Clinical Excellence and Care Redesign Ellen Crowe led a workshop on HRO Forward and Connecticut hospitals’ and health systems’ journey to zero preventable harm at the IHI Patient Safety Congress 2025. ???? CHA launched HRO Forward in the fall of 2023, building on work that began when the first high reliability initiative launched in 2012. Vail and Crowe outlined the steps of the HRO Forward initiative — starting with Phase I, a standardized high reliability maturity assessment using the “IHI Safer Together: A National Action Plan” tool to identify areas of improvement and develop a roadmap to accomplish statewide collaboration goals. Now, in Phase II, hospital participants are working together to develop and implement the strategies identified in the roadmap to advance the delivery of high reliability care in the state. Improving patient access to medical services and growing the healthcare workforce. ?????? CHA’s Paul Kidwell, senior vice president of policy, explains hospitals and health systems are working with legislators and partnering with educational institutions to expand professional development and training opportunities, pave paths to careers in healthcare, and boost recruitment and retention efforts. Through continued collaboration, we must take an all-hands-on-deck approach to building a robust healthcare workforce pipeline across all disciplines. Watch the story in NBC Connecticut to learn more about these efforts, including Hartford HealthCare’s new 24/7 app helping to enhance provider availability as the state continues to tackle the critical workforce shortage: https://lnkd.in/eVbTst9z

Throughout #SocialWorkMonth, CHA honors and celebrates the devoted, compassionate social workers who tirelessly support patients and medical teams across the healthcare continuum. Social workers provide an essential, selfless service to anyone in need — in our hospitals and communities — performing often difficult and emotionally intensive tasks with unwavering patience and kindness. Their contributions to patient care improve health outcomes, not only easing the path for families navigating medical treatment and recovery but also linking individuals to vital resources like housing, financial aid, and nutritious food. Connecticut hospitals and health systems are deeply grateful to these incredible professionals whose work is integral to healthcare. Thank you for all you do! #CaringforCT #CompassionPlusAction #SWMonth2025 #socialworker

Health insurers’ inappropriate use of prior authorization can delay or deny access to needed care. When it comes to #artificialintelligence, Connecticut must strike a balance between innovation and regulation, ensuring insurer algorithms don’t supersede physicians’ medical judgment. "AI can be a really important, powerful tool. So how do we do both of those things — make sure that we're getting the benefit while making sure that it's fundamentally there to support patients, it's not creating barriers to access," CHA’s Paul Kidwell said in CT Post. CHA continues to advocate for transparency and timeliness in the prior authorization process. Lawmakers are working on legislation to protect patients from these insurer practices. Five years ago this month, Connecticut saw its first case of COVID-19, thrusting the state into the global pandemic. In the face of unprecedented challenges, Connecticut’s exemplary healthcare workforce demonstrated unwavering strength, dedication, and resilience on the frontlines of a years-long fight. It cannot be understated that by uniting and collaborating, healthcare teams saved countless lives while risking their own. Today and every day, CHA recognizes, celebrates, and expresses our deepest gratitude to our incredible healthcare workers for always showing up and stepping up, especially in the most difficult of times. From physicians, nurses, and medical specialists to lab technicians, security personnel, and environmental services workers — they are the backbone of Connecticut’s healthcare system and the heartbeat of hospitals. Their commitment to providing high-quality, compassionate care remains steadfast. As we reflect on lessons learned and look forward to a healthier future, hospitals and health systems continue to advocate for policies that support and grow our healthcare workforce, advance quality of care, address upstream drivers of health disparities, and make healthcare more accessible and affordable for all. ?? #CaringforCT #healthcareheroes #healthcareworkers #COVID19
