The CT Department of Emergency Services and Public Protection's Connecticut Division of Scientific Services recently announced the promotion of Dr. Jessica Gleba to Director of Forensic Laboratory Operations. Since arriving at the laboratory in June 2021 as the Assistant Director of the Chemical Analysis Section, her contributions and leadership have been outstanding. With almost 15 years in the field, she has accumulated degrees, awards, publications, and a history of progressive advancement representing some of her accomplishments. While maintaining her current duties, her new responsibility is to oversee the entire forensic laboratory technical operations.?She will work with staff to continually advance and innovate the analytical processes, bridging cross-sectional communications and operations. In addition, Kaleigh Champagne has recently been promoted to Forensic Science Examiner 3 in our Chemical Analysis Section. Kaleigh has been with the division since June 2020 in the Toxicology section. Kaila Annunziata has been promoted from a Laboratory Assistant 3 to a Connecticut Careers Trainee in Forensic Biology. Ariana Eastwood will be promoted on March 21st as a Connecticut Careers Trainee in Forensic Biology.

Scientific Services Administrative Manager Jeremy M. Miller and Forensic Science Examiner 2 Jillian Echard were there to engage with students and showcase the career paths available within our laboratory. The CT Department of Emergency Services and Public Protection's Connecticut Division of Scientific Services is onboarding 11 interns this spring semester. Bella Gentile is a fourth-year undergraduate student at the University of New Haven majoring in Forensic Science with a concentration in Biology, working towards an M.S. in Cellular and Molecular Biology.?Her most recent research project dealt with Forensic Investigative Genetic Genealogy, which joins traditional DNA analysis with traditional genealogical research.?Bella will be interning in Forensic Biology/DNA. Erika Bostick is attending the University of Hartford majoring in Criminal Justice.?She recently visited DESPP headquarters for Career Exploration Day.?This was a day for students to choose a location they were interested in, get a tour of the facility, and get insight into how to pursue different career opportunities.?Erika will be interning in Evidence Receiving. Ethan Harrigan is a molecular and cell biology major currently studying at the University of Connecticut.?He is passionate about DNA sciences; chemistry processes and enjoys working in a lab setting.?Ethan will be interning in Forensic Biology/DNA. Flavia Bucci Casari Degli Atti di Sassoferrato is currently enrolled in the Forensic Technology graduate program at the University of New Haven.?As a Laboratory Assistant, she maintains and manages various professional lab equipment and tools used during crime scenes as well as preparing and teaching students how to perform presumptive testing.?Flavia will be interning in Identification. Franchesca Thomas is a Forensic Science major at the University of New Haven.?She has covered Genetics, Microbiology, and Biochemistry, along with Biology, General Chemistry, and Organic Chemistry. She has engaged in independent research projects that explore the intersections of genetics and molecular biology. Franchesca will be interning in Forensic Biology/DNA. Jasmine Thorpe is majoring in Forensic Science at the University of New Haven.? Jasmine will be interning in Forensic Biology/DNA. ? Kaidyn Mitchell is majoring in Molecular and Cell Biology with a Psychology minor from Quinnipiac University.? Kaidyn will be interning in Latent Prints. Kate Ferrer-Mateo is majoring in Criminology at Central Connecticut State University.??Kate will be interning in Evidence Receiving. Kyla Doyle is pursuing a Bachelor of Science in Biology with a minor in Chemistry at Quinnipiac University.?Kyla will be interning in the Chemical Analysis Section. Maria Fernanda Pundek Branco is a senior in college pursuing a degree in Biology with a minor in Chemistry and Forensic Psychology at Post University.?Maria will be interning in Evidence Receiving. Nolan Pieters is a senior studying Cybersecurity and Networks at the University of New Haven.??Nolan will be interning in Computer Crimes.?

The Connecticut Division of Scientific Services' Bruce Cranstoun and Jeremy M. Miller had the opportunity to attend the press conference at Vinal Technical High School today to see the amazing work they are doing.
STUDENTS SERVING: At Vinal Technical High School in Middletown, students in the Criminal Justice and Protective Services Program are operating the only student-run Emergency Operations Center in Connecticut. At the opening of the expanded EOC Tuesday, students explained how their work is preparing them for careers as first responders. This fall, Vinal students have launched a daily intelligence briefing for first responders around the country. "There is something special going on here,'' said DESPP Commissioner Ronnell Higgins. "This represents an initiative that I hope will transform how we inspire, train and hire young people for public safety positions in the state of Connecticut." The CT Department of Emergency Services and Public Protection's Connecticut Division of Scientific Services welcomes Roger Courtemanche as he begins his new role as a Forensic Science Examiner 1 in Computer Crimes. The lab is excited to have Roger join our team with his 14 years of experience as a Detective at the Warwick Police Department in Rhode Island. He is proficient in using specialized forensic software and tools, such as Axiom, EnCase, Cellebrite, Physical Analyzer and GrayKey.
