Connecting people and technology, to restore and protect nature at scale.
关于我们
Connected Conservation Foundation (CCF) works to protect wildlife and natural ecosystems, empowering community-led conservation through technology. Working towards the global ambition to protect 30% of the planet by 2030, CCF has so far channelled $10 million worth of vital technologies, helping protected areas secure and use the appropriate technologies to stop poaching, prevent human-wildlife conflict, reduce habitat loss and sustainably manage natural resources for both wildlife and local people. Our projects support field teams working in some of the most hostile and untamed regions, equipping protected areas with digital tools and connecting 5,600,000 hectares across 29 conservancies in Kenya, South Africa, Zambia, Botswana, Namibia, Thailand and Papa New Guinea. Our work supports the restoration and protection of over 35 threatened species, including black and white rhinos, African elephants, pangolins, leopards, lions, hippos, cheetahs, wild dogs, hirola, brown hyenas, and the southern ground hornbill. By 2030, through technology, we aspire to protect 10 million hectares of habitat and to conserve over 50+ threatened species, whilst enhancing the livelihoods of local people living in and around conservancies.

New drones equipped with cameras and #AI, capable of scanning zebras' unique stripe patterns—much like barcodes—are being trialled in Kenya for individual identification and population monitoring ?? ? It will be interesting to see the development of these tools to complement other wildlife monitoring techniques. For example, high-resolution Pan-Tilt-Zoom (PTZ) cameras?deployed at six critical watering holes are monitoring reintroduced endangered Grevy’s zebra at Sera Wildlife Community Conservancy. The cameras, already streaming detailed live footage across over 100 kilometres of Kenya's arid bushland, send real-time data to Northern Rangelands Trust's central control room.? ? These technologies can provide invaluable insights into the zebras’ movements, health and behaviour while avoiding navigating the challenging terrain. We look forward to the results from University of Southampton and Marwell Wildlife.? ? https://lnkd.in/evbw8DzU #Conservationtech #tech4wildlife #tech4nature

We’re incredibly grateful for the warm welcome from?Big Life Foundation last week! It was inspiring to visit their operations room and meet some of the dedicated team. These individuals work tirelessly to protect 1.6 million acres of the Greater Amboseli ecosystem in East Africa. As part of their conservation efforts, Big Life has grown to become the second-largest employer within the region, offering vital resource stability, community support, healthcare and educational opportunities. Together with Cisco and Actility, we’re proud to support Big Life’s next step in conservation technology: implementing a #LoRaWAN network throughout the Greater Amboseli Ecosystem. This advanced system will enhance conservation operations by providing real-time data directly to their operations room. With these insights, managers can swiftly coordinate responses to incidents and oversee operations with greater efficiency across such a vast landscape. We’re excited to work alongside Big Life to deploy applications of #LoRa sensors, including wildlife tracking and environmental monitoring, to strengthen conservation efforts further.

An incredible honour to meet Craig, one of Kenya’s last legendary “big tuskers” during our visit to Amboseli National Park. At 51, he’s among only a few dozen left worldwide, protected by tireless efforts from the Big Life Foundation and local Maasai communities. ? These elephants face daily challenges as they navigate human landscapes, from crossing roads to occasional crop raids. But thanks to Big Life’s rangers and their strong ties with communities, conflicts are mitigated, allowing Craig and many other elephant herds to roam freely ??? ??Doc Watson ? #Amboseli #CraigTheTusker #Conservation #BigLifeFoundation

We’re delighted to see the progress made by our esteemed winners of our Satellites for Biodiversity award in partnership with the Airbus Foundation, with some projects now complete ??? In Namibia, we’re supporting EHRA - Elephant Human Relations Aid to use high-resolution satellite imagery and elephant collar tracking to analyse desert elephant movements and reduce human-elephant conflict. By mapping water sources, land boundaries and vegetation, they are working with 40 rural communities for effective land planning, helping protect the 21 remaining desert elephants ?? In Papua New Guinea, we’re supporting the TKCP to combine satellite imagery with land-use monitors to track habitat loss affecting endangered species like the tree kangaroo and echidna. This data is empowering local communities to report illegal activities?? In Thailand, the Asian Institute of Technology has mapped land-use changes with AI and satellite imagery to protect the habitat of the wild Asian elephant population. Machine learning algorithms assess habitat changes and inform conservation policies to mitigate human-elephant conflict ?? In South Sudan, Fauna & Flora is using satellite imagery and machine learning to map core forest patches and establish community conservation areas, protecting endangered species like chimpanzees and African forest elephants while promoting sustainable resource management ?? Inspired by these projects? Apply for Round 3 today and get a chance to access breathtakingly detailed images of Earth in HD15, 30cm and 50cm resolution, a $6,000 grant from the Connected Conservation Foundation, and Esri's ArcGIS Pro for mapping and data visualisation ???? https://lnkd.in/eghhweZg #Conservationgrants #NGOgrant #NatureGrants #EnvironmentalGrants #ConservationFunding?

Huge congratulations to The Safari Collection Footprint Trust on the launch of your new state-of-the-art operations room—which will coordinate reserve activities and strengthen conservation efforts across the Maasai Mara National Reserve. We’re proud to support this initiative by securing generous donations from Cisco and Actility. Together, we’re working to improve resource management with the installation of a #LoRaWAN network, bringing advanced connectivity and data insights to protect this unique ecosystem. We're Looking forward to seeing the impact this has on the ground.
Last Saturday in the Maasai Mara National Reserve, the Governor of Narok County, H.E. Patrick K. Ole Ntutu, officially unveiled the newly constructed Conservation Center, now equipped with Earth Ranger technology. The Safari Collection

As the #COP16 nature talks open their doors in Colombia, we must evaluate the current state of policy progress toward our nature targets ?? Alarmingly, Wildlife and Countryside Link's tracker reveals that none of the targets agreed upon during the global nature talks in 2022 have received adequate action, with some even indicating a regression in policy advancement. Furthermore, scientists and experts around the world have warned that the stakes are high, and there is “no time to waste”. At COP16, the UK must step up and unveil bold plans for nature, including: Increased funding for protected sites ??? International finance to strengthen nature initiatives??? Enhanced capacity-building and development through improved access to and transfer of technology ??? We must also promote innovation and foster technical and scientific cooperation, especially in developing countries. This involves encouraging joint technology development and collaborative scientific research programs aimed at the conservation and sustainable use of biodiversity. CCF believes in cultivating a holistic tech ecosystem. This approach ensures that field partners have access to robust technologies, alongside receiving the necessary support and training to utilise them effectively. Moreover, we are committed to ensuring that local communities benefit from these advancements through digital and technological uplift. Our efforts must align with the ambitious goals and targets outlined in the Framework, and we are dedicated to championing this cause.
