Connected Communities is a non-profit public/private collaboration of neighborhood, business, government and non-profit leaders partnering with residents to address the various needs of the EMMA and Beechwood communities through the implementation of a holistic approach. We are utilizing the proven principles of the Purpose Built Communities framework to address the need for mixed-income housing, cradle-to-career education, community health and wellness, and long-term economic development, and ultimately reduce poverty.
Connected Communities is aiming to be true to the vision of the EMMA and Beechwood residents, by engaging them in collaborative actions that seek to achieve their vision of a thriving neighborhood.

I am honored to serve as a committee member alongside dedicated Rochesterians who care deeply about reparations and justice. We’ve worked to help plan this important event, and now we need your voice! The New York State Community Commission on Reparations Remedies (NYSCCRR) is holding a public hearing TODAY on March 4th at 4 PM at the Memorial Art Gallery in Rochester. I witness daily the ongoing effects of slavery, redlining, and economic disenfranchisement in our community. Beyond Black Wall Street in Tulsa, Oklahoma, other thriving Black economic communities—Bronzeville in Chicago, Hayti in Durham, Sweet Auburn in Atlanta, West Ninth Street in Little Rock, and Farish Street in Jackson—were destroyed by racial violence, stripping Black Americans of generational wealth. We must be intentional about righting these wrongs. This is your chance to share your story, highlight the historical impact on your family, and speak on reparations for Black New Yorkers. ?? We have exciting news! Connected Communities is one of 45 organizations receiving funding through the 2024 HFFI Planning Grant Program. Reinvestment Fund’s HFFI Planning Grant Program will support planning and predevelopment activities for food retail and food retail supply chain business models that will increase consumer access to healthy food in areas with limited access across 28 states and Washington D.C. As a part of this program, our project will conduct a market analysis and feasibility study to explore the development of a nonprofit or cooperative grocery store at 359 Webster Avenue in Rochester’s Beechwood neighborhood.
