NEW HAMPSHIRE: In New Hampshire, outdoor recreation accounted for $3.9 billion, or 3.4 percent of the state’s gross domestic product (GDP), with the Granite State ranking 9th in the country for outdoor recreation as a percentage of GDP. NEW MEXICO - Last week, the New Mexico Outdoor Recreation Division announced the award of $851,400 in grants to 43 organizations as part of the FY2025 Outdoor Equity Fund. These grants will benefit programs across 15 counties and seven Tribal communities, enhancing youth access to outdoor activities statewide. The New Mexico Outdoor Recreation Division received a record-breaking 96 applications, with over $3 million in eligible requests, highlighting the expanding demand and impact of the Outdoor Equity Fund program. “The substantial increase in applications reflects both a growing need and the effectiveness of these programs,” New Mexico Outdoor Recreation Division Director Ana Karina Armijo said. “We’re thrilled to see more Tribal communities and organizations eager to create transformative outdoor opportunities for New Mexico’s youth.” See the full press release and awardees: https://lnkd.in/ehQVfkSi

MARYLAND - In his latest Secretary’s Message titled "There is a Place for Everyone in Maryland’s Outdoors," Secretary of Natural Resources Josh Kurtz reflects on his passion for the outdoors and the success of the inaugural Maryland Outdoor Recreation Summit.?The event marked a significant milestone for the Maryland Department of Natural Resources, highlighting the state's commitment to promoting and preserving outdoor recreation for all. Over 150 people attended ranging from academics, park rangers, business owners, students, nonprofit leaders, and many more. "Conservation and recreation go hand in hand. That’s why the Department is putting an emphasis on expanding outdoor recreation opportunities through the summit and the newly-created Office of Outdoor Recreation. We want to conserve land and encourage people to enjoy it. We want to protect wildlife by helping residents understand why species are threatened. MASSACHUSETTS - The Healey-Driscoll Administration?launched?Trails for All,?a comprehensive initiative that will review the current state of universally accessible trails in Massachusetts. Through intentional trail planning, the Massachusetts Office of Outdoor Recreation (MOOR) plans to promote inclusivity for people with disabling conditions and other mobility considerations by implementing trail improvements such as gentle grades, stable surfaces, and inclusive signage. The initiative will assess the condition of accessible trails to ensure outdoor recreational activities are available to people living with disabilities, low-income residents, and communities of color. MOOR will convene a multi-stakeholder Trail Access Working Group (TAWG), conduct an extensive accessible trails assessment, and publish a report on Accessible and Adaptive Outdoor Recreation Opportunities. “The movement for increased accessibility in the outdoors, has been building momentum. With the passage of measures like California’s Climate Bond and conservation initiatives in Colorado, Minnesota, Georgia, and New Mexico, it’s clear that Americans deeply value our natural spaces as places to gather, recharge, and connect. This year, Trust for Public Land supported 23 ballot measures in 11 states and 22 of them were approved by voters. “The 2024 election demonstrates voters’ continued commitment to a healthier, more resilient future for all Americans, regardless of political affiliation. PENNSYLVANIA - On Monday, Pennsylvania Director of Outdoor Recreation Nathan Reigner visited Easton Outdoor Company to announce the launch of Elevate, a new business engagement initiative designed to strengthen Pennsylvania's outdoor recreation industry by engaging directly with the businesses that drive it. The?Elevate initiative will connect with outdoor recreation businesses across the Commonwealth to identify barriers to growth, develop workforce solutions, and highlight Pennsylvania as a premier destination for outdoor recreation and a place where related businesses can thrive.
