What two weeks during #HurricaneHelene recovery feels like, as a Cone Health Emergency Management Coordinator. Thomas Gioello, MHA was one of the first people from Cone Health in western North Carolina in the aftermath of catastrophic flooding caused by Hurricane Helene. His days began at 4 a.m. when he helped plan the relief work for the day. Here is his experience in his own words.?

That's why Neill Clegg, a retired professor from Greensboro College, has been spending his time playing the ??Soprano Saxophone for cancer patients and anyone else around the Healing Gardens at the Cone Health Cancer Center. ???? "When my wife, Victoria, was undergoing chemotherapy, I would play in the lobby of the Cancer Center," recalls Neill, "Or play in the treatment room, asking people what they wanted to hear, to make the process a little easier."

But Cone Health Chief Physicist, Benjamin (BJ) Sintay, PhD, says, “When we lie down, our organs shift and position differently. For example, the lungs are compressed to about 80% of their normal size. We can account for that, but humans live most of their lives upright. We are very hopeful that this may open the door to more effective, more comfortable treatment.” ?? #HurricaneHelene Recovery Update: ?? 28 RNs are providing 80 12hr shifts over the next several days in Emergency Department and Labor & Delivery. ?? 227 residents, 35 pets, and 47 #IMT, #EMS, American Red Cross North Carolina, Buncombe County Government and NC Department of Health and Human Services and other support personnel are being housed at the #WNC Agricultural Center shelter. ?? Our Incident Management Team has increased their presence at the shelter and has moved operations to a command bus. ?? Fire and Life Safety Coordinator, Jay Baker, is now deployed to #BurkeCounty as part of an IMT supporting Finance & Administration.
