Former fullback for the Kansas City Chiefs and Yale University, Shane Bannon is living proof that you don’t need to start tackle young to be a great football player. In fact, Shane didn’t play football until he was 15, and still went on to play in the NFL. As a member of the CLF Board of Directors and a strong advocate for player safety, Shane wants parents to know?#TackleCanWait. If you’re a parent considering enrolling your child in football, we strongly recommend delaying tackle football until at least age 14. Research shows that repetitive brain trauma from tackle football greatly increases the odds of developing the degenerative brain disease CTE. Learn more: https://lnkd.in/eruTMYjf

Our vision is a world without CTE, and concussion safety without compromise.
关于我们
The Concussion Legacy Foundation was founded in 2007 by Chris Nowinski, Ph.D. and Dr. Robert Cantu in order to bring the concussion crisis into the public eye. Dr. Nowinski, a former WWE professional wrestler and Harvard football player, set a goal with Dr. Cantu to change how concussions were understood and handled in sports. Now in our tenth year, the Concussion Legacy Foundation is more dedicated than ever to solving the concussion crisis by advancing the study, treatment, and prevention of the effects of brain trauma in athletes, military veterans, and other at-risk groups. We work to achieve our mission through education and prevention programs, advocacy, policy development, and support of research at the VA-BU-CLF Brain Bank. Created in 2008 as a partnership between the Concussion Legacy Foundation, Boston University, and the Department of Veterans Affairs, the VA-BU-CLF Brain Bank conducts cutting-edge clinical and pathological research on the long-term effects of repetitive brain trauma, with a focus on the degenerative brain disease Chronic Traumatic Encephalopathy (CTE). The VA-BU-CLF Brain Bank is the single greatest CTE research resource in the world, housing 70% of global CTE cases. Together, we are committed to creating a world without CTE, and concussion safety without compromise.

This #CTEAwarenessMonth, Harvard's Daniel Daneshvar, M.D., Ph.D. explains that the total force of head impacts someone receives throughout their life is what puts them at risk for CTE. This is a reminder that CTE prevention isn't just about avoiding concussions, but the cumulative toll of head impacts over time. This is why it's especially crucial for kids to avoid contact sports. #TackleCanWait

141km in 24hours!! This was, without a doubt, the hardest thing I’ve ever done — physically, mentally, and emotionally. But wow, I loved every second of it. This challenge gave me exactly what I was looking for, it allowed me to see how far I could push myself. This challenge truly scared me. Just 18 months ago, my first half-marathon nearly broke me. Fast forward to now, running 7x the distance and 24 hours of nonstop movement. It’s crazy to think how much growth can happen when you commit to testing your limits. The hardest part of the challenge, wasn’t the injuries or the pain, it was not being able to mentally switch off for a full 24hours. Honestly I wouldn’t have been able to complete the 24hours if I didn’t have so much support during the run. So massive thank you to everyone who came out throughout the run to keep me company! A few milestones from the 24hours - 5hours 33 - first Marathon completed - 11hrs 55 - 2nd marathons completed - furthest distance I had travelled PB - 16hrs - longest time on feet PB - 21hrs 26 - 3 marathons completed - 24hours 141km total completed 27km off the full 4 marathons but with more training and no injuries, we will get it done! Thank you to everyone who has donated to the Concussion Legacy Foundation Concussion Legacy Foundation UK I truly appreciate it! #24hourrun #141km #run #challenge #marathons #ultra

CTE is the only neurodegenerative disease that is 100% preventable. Why? Because it's environmentally caused. If you are not exposed to repetitive head impacts, you won't get CTE. In 2023, CLF and BU CTE Center published the first ever CTE Prevention Protocol, a simple playbook with recommendations for reducing the number and severity of head impacts proven to cause the degenerative brain disease. This #CTEAwarenessMonth, check out the protocol and learn more about our prevention efforts at?EndCTE.org

Former Vikings QB Tommy Kramer recently announced his dementia diagnosis. Our CEO, Dr. Christopher Nowinski, PhD says Kramer's condition is likely connected to the Pro Bowler's football career, which included 13 seasons in the NFL. Researchers from BU CTE Center have found CTE in 345 of 376 former NFL players who've been studied. Of those who lived into their 60s and 70s, many had dementia. Kramer shared his diagnosis to help other players who may be experiencing the same. If you or a loved one is worried about CTE, reach out to our team at?CLFHelpLine.org?for free, personalized support. Read the story at: https://lnkd.in/ecg-6Gy6
