Ben Nantasai from Concrete Masonry & Hardscapes Association is set to speak at the 2025 Iowa Masonry Seminar through Masonry Institute of Iowa discussing community functional resilience. This session will cover how resilient design ties into building codes, sustainability and safety — along with the critical role masonry plays in meeting these goals. Attendees will gain 1 hour of AIA/HSW professional development and walk away with real-world examples and case studies on masonry’s impact in resilient design. Last week, Glenwood Mason Supply Company Inc. was on-site at the New York Build Expo, the largest construction & design show for New York and the Tri-state region. Thanks Jeff Hansen and the Glenwood team for showing up and representing our industry in front of over 40,000 attendees!

The search is on for the Region 4 Technical Director! This role is all about supporting architects, engineers, and contractors by connecting them with the resources they need for successful designs. As Technical Director, you’ll lead the charge in building out design assistance capabilities across a diverse region that includes: TX, LA, AR, MO, OK, KS, NM, AZ. Masonry education is well underway at Southern Illinois University Edwardsville, where 23 students are enrolled in CE443: Design of Masonry Structures. This course gives students an in-depth look at structural masonry, preparing them to integrate masonry into their future designs. Students were introduced to The Beauty of Block by Bruce Augustin, showcasing masonry’s versatility through beautiful structures across the U.S. and Europe. With this being an approved program, this course is fully supported, covering the instructor’s salary and providing textbooks to ensure students have the resources they need.

Collier County’s Build My Future event brought together nearly 700 students exploring careers in the trades, and the masonry booth was a standout! Students got hands-on experience working with trowels, mud tables, blocks and bricks. Events like these are key to inspiring the next gen of builders, giving them the tools (literally) to consider a future in the trades. Great to see so much interest in masonry!
