We are so delighted to help shed light on the significance of this discovery: “It is a reminder of how fragile the landscape can be,” said David Wood, the curator of the Concord Museum, who was at the site when the musket balls were discovered. “You don’t always think of the fact they were still there, even though the fields had regularly been plowed for two centuries. To learn more about what we can learn from the objects that witnessed the start of the American Revolution, visit the Museum and explore our immersive April 19, 1775 galleries. From musket balls, riffles, flints, and powder horns to the lantern that was used as a signal on the night of Paul Revere's ride, we have so much to share with you.

We are thrilled to share that the Concord Museum has received its reaccreditation from the American Alliance of Museums – the highest national recognition available to any museum in the US and the gold standard of museum excellence for over 50 years. Only 3% of all museums nation-wide hold accreditation. We are immensely proud to be among the ranks of the very best museums across the country. Thank you to everyone who has supported the Museum over the years - we would not be where we are today without each of you, and we feel immeasurably thankful and honored that you have chosen to be a part of our community.

Big news!! The Concord Museum has received a $5,000,000 grant from an anonymous donor. This generous gift will provide critical support to the Museum as it continues to preserve and share Concord’s remarkable story for generations to come. The grant will enable the Museum to: - Establish an endowed curatorship that honors Curator David Wood’s four-decade tenure at the Museum; - Create a permanent endowment fund to preserve the Museum’s nationally significant collection of extraordinary objects; - Upgrade the Museum’s IT infrastructure, including a new Customer Relationship Management System that will enhance visitors’ experiences, as well as a new Collections Management System that will further the Museum’s goal of making the collections accessible to all. This transformative grant will propel the Museum forward in its mission to connect people to Concord’s multi-faceted history through thought-provoking exhibitions, vital education initiatives, and world-class public programs.

“[A]n implicit reminder that history is a living thing, the present being an extension of the past (and preparation for the future)”- The Boston Globe We are thrilled to share this wonderful review of our current special exhibition, "What Makes History: New Stories from the Collection." This special exhibition explores what it means to make history through object collecting, preservation, and storytelling. Visitors will see a variety of collections from the Museum’s holdings, offering the rare opportunity to look closely at several kinds of a particular item. By displaying these eclectic collections together,?What Makes History?encourages visitors to think about how and why these objects were saved so that we might view them decades and even centuries later. Highlights include a sampling of the Museum’s vast collection of fans from around the world, beautifully painted fireplace bellows produced by free Black workers in Acton, MA, in the 19th century, as well as chairs, textiles, card cases, and timepieces. Many of these objects have never before been on view. We invite you to come look closely at these remarkable items, join us as we ask new questions, and consider how we can continue to expand what makes history together. On view through August 18, 2024.
