The Concept Solutions, LLC (CS), LLC, NAVenGIS team, in partnership with NAV CANADA, has launched an ambitious initiative to transform air traffic management for military flights and enhance coordination with the U.S. National Airspace System. ATCA recognized this excellent work at ATCA Connect by presenting CS with the Charles E. Varnell Memorial Annual Outstanding Achievement Award for Small Business. Their innovative system, built on the Advanced Geographic Information System framework, demonstrates that rapid deployment of operational capabilities is achievable within just three months. In Phase 1, CS implemented an automated ADS-B accommodation capability. This system enables NAV CANADA’s military flight planners to enhance situational awareness and communicate critical flight route information to air traffic controllers for unequipped aircraft. Phase 2 will introduce a cutting-edge Altitude Reservation request management system improving internal communications and situational awareness among NAV CANADA’s Altitude Reservation Units. This centralized digital view of upcoming missions will replace a manual process that relied on paper and analog maps, resulting in enhanced safety, reduced operator workload, and better information exchange with international air navigation service providers, including the FAA and the U.K.

Last week, CS attended the 2024 FAA Drone and Advanced Air Mobility Symposium at the Baltimore Convention Center in Maryland. Our UAS Program Manager, Michael Hawrysko, was joined by Koress Tapscott-Wright and Jasmine Frazier from our Technical and Program Management (TPM) Support contract. ? This event was a fantastic opportunity to engage with FAA and industry leaders, delving deep into the integration of UAS operations into the National Airspace System (NAS). The symposium provided a rich platform for exchanging ideas with key FAA and industry figures. Our team had the chance to connect with leaders from the FAA's ASH, NextGen AAM Office, AVS, AUS AAM Office, and many others, as well as notable figures from NASA, Volanno, HMMH, Ax Enterprize, P3 Tech Consulting, and Virginia Tech. Each session opened new insights into the current achievements and persistent challenges in drone integration. Topics ranged from safety and regulatory updates to public-private partnerships and the use of data and technology to enhance operational efficiency. ? Despite the progress, there are still significant challenges in regulatory adaptation, community engagement, and ensuring seamless integration with traditional airspace activities. The discussions underscored the importance of collaboration for future advancements. Thanks to the collective efforts of all stakeholders, the shared vision for a fully integrated, safe, and efficient NAS is clearly on the horizon. ?
