Kilgore College has received a $349,818 Advanced Technological Education (ATE) grant from the National Science Foundation to fund its “Reducing Barriers to IT Technician Education” (RBITTE) initiative. The three-year grant will support efforts to increase the number of employable IT technicians in the region by addressing barriers to completion in the Computer Information Technology (CIT) program, expanding industry partnerships, implementing flexible course delivery and boosting student support. Local partners, including Cynergy Technology, Martin Resources and the City of Longview, have committed to supporting the project. KC prepared the grant with guidance from Mentor-Connect, a program helping two-year colleges develop successful proposals for NSF funding. KC will hold a press conference to give details about the grant at 9:30 a.m. Tuesday, Oct. 29, on the second floor of the McLaurin Administration Building. https://lnkd.in/g_XdFGyW

Free Wi-Fi "Evil Twin" Attack Free Wi-Fi is a great convenience, especially while traveling, but it comes with risks. One prevalent scam is the “evil twin” attack, where cybercriminals set up fake Wi-Fi networks that closely resemble legitimate ones. If you connect to one of these fraudulent networks, your personal information—like bank details—could be at serious risk. Imagine visiting a coffee shop and seeing multiple networks like “Coffee Shop Free” or “Coffee Shop Free Wi-Fi.” If you mistakenly connect to a fake network, the cybercriminal can monitor your online activity and steal sensitive information. How to Protect Yourself: - Avoid unsecured networks: Always look for networks labeled as “Secure.” Evil twin networks typically lack proper security features. - Use a VPN: This adds an important layer of security and privacy when connecting to public networks. - Skip logging into sensitive accounts: If possible, avoid accessing financial or personal accounts over public Wi-Fi. It's safer to do so on a trusted home network. Stay vigilant and protect your data from potential threats! #CynergyTechnology #ITConsulting #ITServices #DeviceProtection

“They claim to be checking that you are alive and that they should disregard a death certificate filed that claims a family member is recovering your account. It’s a pretty elaborate ploy to get you to allow password recovery,” https://lnkd.in/gccNVhkz

Protect your accounts from password spraying attacks In our digital age, passwords are essential for accessing everything from social media to bank accounts. With the average person juggling up to 100 online accounts, it's tempting to choose simple passwords like "password1234." These weak passwords can expose you to serious cyber threats, like password spraying. What is Password Spraying? It’s a tactic where cybercriminals test common weak passwords across multiple accounts, allowing them to bypass lockouts and gain access to sensitive information. How to Stay Safe: Enable Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA): Add an extra layer of security to your accounts. Explore Passwordless Options: Consider biometric or voice recognition for safer authentication. Create Strong, Unique Passwords: Use long passphrases and avoid reusing passwords across accounts. Stay vigilant and protect your digital life! #CynergyTechnology #ITConsulting #ITServices #DeviceProtection

This is your final exchange... "For years, the operators of these criminal exchange services have led you to believe that their hosting cannot be found, that they do not store any customer data and that all data is deleted immediately after the transaction," explains Operation Final Exchange website. https://lnkd.in/gHBhkBi8
