???? #CBVCEO Natasha A. Harrison was an invited participant for Gathering by the River: A Relational Repair Convening. ?? Hosted by the?Compton Foundation under the leadership of June Wilson, the gathering took place in Bulbancha (New Orleans) November 11-14, 2024 to?explore the ecosystem of relational repair in the context of settler colonialism and slavery in the United States. It also supported the practices of relational repair and connect the practitioners doing this work. The gathering focused on: ?? Building community and connection. ?? Growing our understanding of relational repair. ?? Inspiring action. The convening affirmed that we are not the first. And, we are not alone. #ubuntu #racialjustice #ancestors

Increasingly it seems to me that our efforts toward transformation are contingent on our ability to repair. Reflections on a gorgeous and timely post-election convening in New Orleans hosted by the Compton Foundation.

At the Compton Foundation’s #GatheringByTheRiver: A Relational Repair Convening, iF Co-CEO, Temi F. Bennett, Esq. joined former Threshold Philanthropy Co-CEO, Morgan E. Dawson, and Justice Funders for an impactful conversation on the power—and limits—of institutional philanthropy in advancing repair. This interactive reflection highlighted the urgent need for healing and transformation in the context of settler colonialism and harm in the U.S. Together, we’re building connections, deepening understanding, and inspiring action to create systems rooted in repair. ?? It's been a hard week. We don’t need to say here how dangerous Tuesday’s results are for our democracy, for our climate future, for our ability to control our bodies and live our lives authentically, free of fear. As we sit with where we are now, we’re thinking about something Anat Shenker-Osorio said at a briefing: “The future is still made up of the choices we collectively make.” We may not have chosen these times but they are the times we are in. And as we think about each person in our circle, the work you do and the deep love and vision with which you do it, the fear we feel in this moment is paired with immense hope and faith. We are in this together and our collective choices will shape the future. Although Compton Foundation is closing next month, we are grateful to be part of a broader beloved community and will continue to be in solidarity with you through the future, whatever that looks like. In the meantime, we hope that you are finding ways to be present to the grief, anger, fear, numbness, or whatever other emotions are in your body and heart right now. Be gentle with yourselves. For a moment, we rest and grieve. And then we move forward with love and purpose.
