We have long known that personal banking is an overlooked and promising climate lever. However, thanks to the research from our partner Topo Finance, we now know this intervention is far more powerful than we previously believed. That's why we're excited to announce the launch of a new, updated version of The Individual Cash Calculator that we helped build in collaboration them. Featuring new data and capabilities, this tool enables individuals to measure the emissions their banking generates as well as the climate benefits of moving their money to greener banks. By doing so, the tool helps illuminate the fact that where individuals bank is one of the most important consumer climate decisions we all make, and one that we have agency over how our dollars are being used. Take a look today, and see what the estimated emissions of your banking is, the impact that you can have by moving your money, and some options of where to move your money to. https://lnkd.in/eUJiGBdQ #bankingonvalues #bthechange #betterbusiness #climateaction BankFWD, Topo Finance

Renewable Energy Certificates (RECs) often, very rightfully, get a bad name. But there are options out there (like the ones from our friends at Ever.green) where RECs have real impact in standing-up NEW projects that put pressure on fossil fuels, and genuinely tackle climate change on a systemic level. One example of that is the Ocotillo Wind Farm in Big Spring, TX that we helped bring back online (along with a number of much larger companies) through our long-term Virtual Power Purchase Agreement (VPPA). We're so excited about it and being the smallest company in the country to do this type of work on climate, that we decided to go down to Texas and shoot a little video explaining it with our partners cause+effect. You can check out both the full video, along with an in-depth case study about this project at the link below. And if you want to get serious about your climate action plan, drop us a line and we're happy to connect you with the right people. #renewables #bthechange #businessforgood #climateaction https://lnkd.in/emBaHPY6

POW is proud to work with our Brand Partner, Compose[d]! Compose[d] is a digital agency built around driving impact. As a Certified B Corp and 1% for the Planet member, they have proven dedication to addressing the climate crisis. Recently, Compose[d] helped to repower the Ocotillo Wind Farm in Big Springs, Texas, to provide clean energy to 19,000 homes in the area. Bringing this wind farm back online will help create renewable options and eliminate the impact of creating a new project from scratch, all in an area where the majority of power still comes from fossil fuels. Learn more about how they are driving impact with the video below!

We've always been proud to be an early signatory to Clean Creatives and now the importance of this movement has been clearly recognized by world leaders with this. announcement from UN Chief, António Guterres calling for a global fossil-fuel advertising ban. #betterbusiness #cleancreatives #bthechange
?? Today the Secretary General of the United Nations António Guterres called on ad and PR agencies to cut ties with the fossil fuel industry by next year. ??? “Many in the fossil fuel industry have shamelessly greenwashed, even as they have sought to delay climate action – with lobbying, legal threats, and massive ad campaigns. They have been aided and abetted by advertising and PR companies – Mad Men fuelling the madness. I call on these companies to stop acting as enablers to planetary destruction.” “Stop taking on new fossil fuel clients, from today, and set out plans to drop your existing ones. Fossil fuels are not only poisoning our planet – they’re toxic for your brand. Your sector is full of creative minds who are already mobilising around this cause. They are gravitating towards companies that are fighting for our planet – not trashing it.” This is a turning point in the advertising and PR industry’s relationship with fossil fuels. There is no longer any cover for agencies to say that they are doing the right thing when working with polluters. Everyone knows this is wrong, and everyone needs to act. Two years ago the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change laid out the case for how fossil fuel PR and advertising accelerates the climate emergency. That is now reflected in dozens of bans on advertising by local governments, and a growing number of actions by regulators across the world. The pressure will not stop, but the opportunity for those who act could also not be greater. By acting now, the ad and PR industry can be leaders in the clean energy revolution, rather than the voice of its opposition. ?? We are so grateful for the over 1,100 advertising, PR and creative companies who have already taken the Clean Creatives pledge not to work with fossil fuel companies, and to Secretary Guterres’ call to action. We are living through the hottest years in human history, and today shows that the future of creativity really is clean. #UnitedNations #ClimateChange #WorldEnvironmentDay #Advertising #PR #Sustainability?

A huge week!! Over the last 18 months, POW has worked tirelessly with partners to support common ground, common sense legislation. Introducing: The Energizing Our Communities Act (EOCA).?We are?thrilled to announce the introduction of the?Energizing Our Communities Act, a bill sponsored by Rep. Annie Kuster (D-NH) and Sen. Peter Welch (D-VT). The bill was introduced in both the U.S. House of Representatives and the U.S. Senate on April 18, and?publicly announced on Earth Day. “This legislation is a testament to the power of how a team of passionate athletes, creatives, scientists, brands, and policymakers can come together to build a better future." - Erin Sprague, CEO, POW What is the EOCA? The EOCA is designed to ease local permitting gridlock by reinvesting funds from DOE loan programs into communities that host clean energy infrastructure. At POW, we advocate and lobby for clean energy development and deployment, finding that transmission remains one of the biggest barriers to scaling clean energy. That is – delivering energy from the source to the customer. Point A to point B. ?There is currently 1,400 GW of available energy (90% of which is for zero-carbon energy like solar, wind and battery storage) seeking connection to our grid. We want to help make that happen!? In the last three years, significant progress has been made in the energy transition - through the Inflation Reduction Act and the Investment in Infrastructure and Jobs Act. Huge investments are making their way into the clean energy sector, but permitting at the local level is stalling out new transmission development.? To address this, we believe communities that host this clean energy infrastructure deserve to be supported in turn. The EOCA will bring REAL benefits to these communities. Through this bill, communities that host clean energy infrastructure will receive economic assistance for things like roads, bridges, schools, libraries, first responders, outdoor recreation, stewardship, and more. “This bill addresses outdated infrastructure, bureaucratic hurdles and NIMBYism, offering tangible benefits to communities embracing clean energy infrastructure.” - Ben Gubits, Vice President of Campaigns and Advocacy, POW Learn more about POW’s legislation on our site ?? “Communities coast to coast in all seasons are seeing undeniable impacts of climate change. The science is clear, and the moment is now - we need to rapidly scale our ability to get more clean energy onto the grid, and I’m proud to support the Energizing Our Communities Act.” - Jeremy Jones, Founder, POW The energy transition ensures a future of clean air, clean water, and a livable planet.

Exciting news! Together with seven other companies committed to buying renewable energy, we’re helping to refurbish a 55-megawatt wind farm in Big Spring, Texas, which would otherwise have been decommissioned. Along with companies such as Atlassian, Brooks Running, and Trimble Inc., we’ve pledged to buy a portion of the renewable energy certificates (RECs) that will be issued by the Ocotillo Windpower facility over the next five to 10 years. Thanks to Ever.green for being such an amazing partner and making all of this possible, even for a small business like us! While we're not only excited about being able to participate in building utility scale infrastructure and help drive systemic change, we love that we're able to do it through the lens of emissionality by building it in an area of the world where 64% of the power grid is still run off of fossil fuels. Our President and Chief Creative Officer, Jason Parkin, is quoted in this GreenBiz Group story on the deal, which you can read below. #sustainability #renewableenergy #windfarms #bthechange #circularity
