While we celebrate food and football with loved ones, let’s acknowledge the indigenous people on whose land we feast, and whose ancestors suffered unimaginable cruelty. This isn’t about guilt or blame, but about honest reflection and a commitment to do better. Let’s use this day of gratitude to dedicate some time to remember the strength and resilience of indigenous communities in the face of hardship. Let’s commit to educating ourselves on the struggles faced by indigenous people today. This means actively seeking out information and listening to indigenous voices. Let’s also find tangible ways to support indigenous social initiatives, organizations fighting for tribal sovereignty, and movements promoting cultural preservation. And most importantly, let’s build bridges by reaching out to indigenous communities in our areas, listening to their stories, and working together towards an inclusive and equitable future. May our tables forever be places of blessed feasting of Mother Earth filled with inclusion, compassion, and connection to heal the wounds of the past.
