In keeping tabs on the marketing landscape, we find that some developments come with both positive and negative angles. One example applies to influencer marketing and comes to us courtesy of Insider Intelligence. The good news—at least for influencers and those involved in their campaigns—is that influencer marketing spend continues to grow. In fact, it’s poised to exceed $6 billion by 2025. However, rates of growth in relation to total budgets have slowed—a lot—in the last two years, from 32.8% in 2021 to 14.0% in 2023. Furthermore, projections for the next two years find the same figure stymied between 14% and 15%. Note that this is still more resilient than social ad spending, whose growth rate dropped from 37.9% in 2021 to a mere 4.1% in 2023. As the year winds down and 2024 preparations pick up, we will keep our eyes peeled for a silver lining on the horizon. Last week, Compass team members Julia Flood and Ronnie Jean Burnham got a taste of Southern hospitality and cutting-edge technology at the NACS Show in Atlanta. The show lived up to its reputation as the biggest yearly event for the convenience-store industry. Julia and Ronnie were especially struck by the sample Amazon Go store—which takes checkout-free shopping to a new frontier by having customers scan their palms (!) to pay—as well as the plethora of energy drinks, energy shots, and energy gummies on display!
