A message from Sam, our community engagement manager. Hello Community, We are in need of your support! We are looking to raise 200 winter jackets to deliver as gifts for our shelter residents. Last year, we were notified that due to budget cuts, we would not be able to receive jackets from our usual donors. In response, we called our community for help, and you all came through! With the help of our amazing partners, we were able to collect over 250 jackets! This year, we only need to collect 200, and with your support, we believe we can ensure the well-being of those we serve. You can go to our Amazon Wishlist to help. Thank you all! https://lnkd.in/fRF2MhU

Professor Josephine Ensign, who has given a wonderful presentation to Compass in our NAVIGATES series, will give a talk on November 15 at the Silverdale Regional Library entitled "Homelessness and the Meaning of Home." Here is a snippet of the event announcement. "Loss of a home, whether through financial difficulties, divorce, illness, or natural disasters like wildfires, is a widespread and growing problem affecting all of us. Often thought of as only an urban problem, homelessness also occurs in suburban and rural areas throughout Washington State. What are the historical roots of homelessness, and what lessons can we learn from them? What are the common meanings of home to us, and how can we apply those meanings to our responses to homelessness in our communities? In this talk, author and professor Josephine Ensign leads audiences through a values clarification exercise that includes individual writing time. Professor Ensign will share her research on the history of homelessness in her hometown of Seattle, along with discussion of what these stories can teach us about the contemporary crisis of homelessness throughout our state and country." https://lnkd.in/gK9yCHsD
