A day of exposure, excitement, and excellence was experienced with the welcoming of U.S. Navy Capt. Alex Hampton, Naval Air Force Atlantic's Chief of Staff, Lt. Cmdr. Donovan Boone and many other experts at the Raleigh Durham Airport UPS hub, Nov. 9.
More than 340 people attended the science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM) Fly-In. The event, sponsored by Global Health Connections International, is in its 13th year of offering STEM experiences for youth.
“It is critical that you get exposure to opportunities early in life,” Hampton said who explained to the attendees his journey in Naval Aviation. “Anything you would like to do, prepare yourself with education. That will open many doors for you.”
Boone, originally from New York, focused on the need to listen and to be open to trying something new. His source of inspiration to fly stemmed from seeing aircraft land and take-off from John F. Kennedy International Airport.
“Off I went to Morehouse College, in a ROTC program, and the rest is history for me. I majored in Economics and my life in the Navy flying F/A 18 Super Hornets has allowed me to see the world,” Boone said.
