Today, February 20th, Community Health Alliance had the privilege of hosting the 988 Community of Practice, bringing together 988 call providers, ADAMHS Boards, and Ohio’s 988 Lifeline leadership to strengthen collaboration and enhance crisis response efforts. A special thank you to Doug Jackson, Thomas Gerber, and Abbey Wollschleger from OhioMHAS for their leadership and invaluable insights in guiding this discussion. Facilitated by Doug Jackson and Matthew Courser (Pacific Institute for Research and Evaluation), our conversations focused on deepening partnerships, improving communication, and identifying opportunities to better serve those in crisis. We appreciate all the organizations who joined us today, including PIRE, TCN Behavioral Health Services, Talbert House, and Child Focus. Your dedication to this mission is making a real difference in our communities. Together, we are building a more connected and effective 988 system to ensure those in crisis receive the support they need. ?? https://lnkd.in/gH9d-jQs #988CommunityOfPractice #CrisisSupport #MentalHealthMatters #Collaboration #OhioMHAS

During last night’s Super Bowl, the Breaking the Silence campaign aired, bringing national attention to the critical need for better youth mental health support. This powerful commercial, created in partnership with Fox News TV, the Joe Burrow Foundation, Interact for Health, and Crossroads Church, featured real teen submissions—amplifying their voices and shedding light on their experiences. By putting teens at the center of the conversation, this initiative highlights the importance of listening to those directly impacted. At Community Health Alliance, we are proud to contribute to the broader effort of strengthening mental health resources and ensuring that young people have the support they need. Mental health is not just an individual concern—it’s a community-wide priority that requires continued collaboration and investment. For Community Health Alliance, Black History Month is a time to recognize the contributions of Black leaders in mental health and highlight the importance of diverse, inclusive care. Trailblazers like Bebe Moore Campbell, who advocated for mental health awareness in Black communities, Dr. Herman George Canady, who examined racial bias in psychological testing, and Drs. Mamie & Kenneth Clark, whose research influenced the fight against segregation, have paved the way for more equitable mental health care. We believe diversity in mental health care is essential for personal success and well-being. Representation and cultural understanding help break down barriers, reduce stigma, and improve outcomes for individuals from all backgrounds. By fostering an inclusive, community-centered approach, we ensure that everyone receives care that respects their unique experiences and needs. As January comes to a close, we acknowledge Substance Use Disorder Treatment Month—a time to reflect on the journey of recovery, the challenges faced, and the support that makes healing possible. Recovery is not a single decision but a continuous process of growth, resilience, and self-discovery. Some days feel strong, others feel uncertain, but every step forward holds value. This month was a reminder that healing happens in community, through compassion, and with the right support. Moving into February, let this be a time to continue fostering understanding, care, and meaningful progress. Whether through personal reflection, supporting someone in need, or advocating for better resources, the work of recovery and mental wellness extends beyond any single month. Let’s keep moving forward. https://lnkd.in/gH9d-jQs #CircleOfSupport #RecoveryIsPossible #MentalHealthMatters

Last night, Transitional Living TLC, in collaboration with our dedicated community partners, coordinated and participated in the statewide Point-in-Time homeless count for the City of Butler County. From 8 PM to 6 AM, teams worked tirelessly to identify individuals experiencing homelessness, assess their needs, and provide essential resources and support. Through this effort, we distributed supply bags provided by Shared Harvest Foodbank and meals prepared by New Life Mission, while outreach teams engaged directly with those in need—offering assistance and connecting them to vital services. This initiative was made possible through the partnership of numerous organizations and individuals committed to serving our community, including: Serve City, YWCA USA Hamilton, Enabled Ministries, Ohio Department of Job and Family Services, Access Counseling Services, Heroin Hopeline, Sojourner Recovery Services, Primary Health Solutions, TOPSS, Butler County Emergency Management, Butler County Sheriff's Office - Ohio, and Commissioner Cindy Carpenter We are deeply grateful for the collaboration and dedication of everyone involved. By working together, we are building stronger connections and making a meaningful impact on the lives of those experiencing homelessness in our community. A recent article from Crain’s Cleveland Business highlighted a significant milestone: for the first time in three years, the number of suicide deaths in Ohio declined in 2023, according to the 2023 Ohio Suicide Report. Suicide deaths decreased by about 1%, with 1,777 lives lost compared to 1,797 in 2022. While the drop is small, it’s an encouraging step after years of rising rates. Statewide efforts, like the 988 suicide and crisis lifeline, have been instrumental in increasing access to immediate support. Since its launch in July 2022, the 24/7 helpline has received over 440,000 contacts from individuals across all 88 Ohio counties. These initiatives, paired with evidence-based programs and local coalitions, are helping to break stigma, expand resources, and foster hope. Community Health Alliance is proud to play a role in this progress by providing essential support to those in crisis. These results are a testament to the power of community-driven action. Together, we are shaping not just a brighter, but actually a future, for all. On this Martin Luther King Day, January 20th, we reflect on Dr. King's profound teachings of resilience, justice, and the power of love. His firm belief in the capacity for change and the strength of community holds deep resonance for those on a journey of mental health or addiction recovery. Dr. King once said, “Only in the darkness can you see the stars.” These words remind us that even in the midst of struggle, there is hope. Recovery is often a path marked by challenges, but like the civil rights movement, it is also a testament to courage, faith, and the belief in a brighter tomorrow. Dr. King also spoke of the “inescapable network of mutuality”—how we are all connected in our shared humanity. This mirrors the foundational principle of recovery: we heal together. Whether it's leaning on a support group, a loved one, or a compassionate community, progress is made through unity and understanding. As we honor Dr. King's legacy today, let us commit to fostering environments of kindness, equity, and support for those facing mental health challenges or seeking freedom from addiction. Together, we can uplift one another and build a future rooted in healing, hope, and justice. https://lnkd.in/gH9d-jQs #MLKDay #MentalHealthMatters #RecoveryJourney #HealingTogether #AddictionRecovery #Resilience #CommunityHealing #UnityInDiversity

In both physical and emotional journeys, recovery is where true strength is built. Just like a muscle grows stronger after rest and repair, recovery from addiction is a process that transforms lives—one step at a time. ?? What Recovery Teaches Us: 1?? It’s a Process, Not Perfection: Just like building muscles takes consistent effort, so does healing from addiction. Every small step forward matters. 2?? Support is Key: Recovery isn’t done alone. Coaches, counselors, and communities provide the foundation for lasting change. 3?? Progress Takes Reflection and Effort: Strength is built through moments of reflection, consistent effort, and determination to keep moving forward. At Community Health Alliance, we believe in walking alongside those on their recovery journey—because together, we build stronger individuals, families, and communities. ?? https://lnkd.in/gH9d-jQs #Recovery #StrengthInSupport #CommunityHealth #MentalHealth #AddictionRecovery

Recovery begins with a powerful decision: to stand up when you're ready, to rise from the weight that has held you down, and to let go of what no longer serves you. Even the lowest points can become the foundation for something new—a chance to rebuild with strength, hope, and resilience. Every step forward is a testament to your courage and determination to create a brighter future. When we asked Jennifer Fowler, Certified Peer Recovery Specialist at Community Health Alliance, "what does mental health and/or recovery mean to you," she reflected on her own past to help create change in others - when they were ready to do so - and we can't be more proud of her personal accomplishments as well as the powerful perspective she can now provide others. Sojourner Recovery and Transitional Living TLC are two Community Health Alliance providers who provide fresh perspectives (such as one's from Jennifer) to each person for the community to thrive - thank you for being part of our journey!
