Living in the Shade is now on view at LaGuardia Community College’s Shenker Hall, (the M-Building) at 31-10 Thomson Avenue in Long Island City, showcasing the evolving landscapes of #NYCHA developments—from archival images to powerful contemporary photography by LaGuardia students. Open to the public and on display through May 23rd. Design Trust for Public Space, the Neighborhood Safety Initiatives at the?Center for Justice Innovation, and?Public Housing Community Fund?have been collaborating with?the New York City Housing Authority (NYCHA) to create and activate open space with and for public housing residents at four campuses in Brooklyn and the Bronx. At Patterson Houses in the South Bronx, residents imagined an intergenerational outdoor space that offers amenities for neighbors of all ages and abilities. Two new playgrounds, an outdoor fitness center, basketball court upgrades, and landscaping improvements will be unveiled this summer. “These kinds of renovations will set a model for what these resident-led processes can look like.” ????
