We're deeply moved by Gena Sadler's powerful testimony at The Village's ribbon-cutting ceremony last week. Her journey from facing homelessness and health challenges to reclaiming her life exemplifies why The Village exists. “I was invited to come to Nevada to receive care and found a medical team that had treated my rare illness on the skin,” said Sadler. “The home I was invited to turned toxic in just a few months, in an attempt to advocate for myself to get the care I was needing myself and my belongings were dropped off here in Reno on Valentine's day with no money on hand, no housing, and no idea what to do. I knew there was no way I could live on the street. I was traumatized and alone. I went to the women's shelter until I was blessed with a room at The Village on Sage. Had The Village not been there for me I don’t know for sure where I would be, but I can only imagine. I am grateful that The Village gave me the space to steal my health and my life back.” We're honored to have played a role in Gena's inspiring journey of resilience and recovery. ??? Exciting news! This week, we celebrated our ribbon-cutting ceremony at The Village on Sage Street as we grow to help even more neighbors in need. Thanks to partnerships with the Nevada Housing Division, the City of Reno, and Volunteers of America, this innovative, affordable housing community is adding 96 new beds to its existing 216 units. Since opening in 2019, The Village has helped over 500 residents, with 294 moving on to permanent housing - showing real impact through improved financial stability and maintained income even during tough times. The expansion will be completed by year-end, providing crucial shelter just in time for winter. The first resident is slated to move in before December 31, 2024. ??
