Mobilizing the power of philanthropy to build a racially equitable region where everyone prospers.
关于我们
The Greater Washington Community Foundation ignites the power of philanthropy, leads for community impact, and responds to critical community needs. For five decades, The Community Foundation has connected caring donors with nonprofits creating lasting change in DC, Montgomery County, Northern Virginia, and Prince George’s County. As the region’s largest local funder, we have invested more than $1.5 billion since 1973 to build racially equitable, just, and thriving communities where everyone prospers. Now, our strategic focus is to close our region’s racial wealth gap so that people of all races, places, and identities reach their full potential. As a community foundation, we keep our finger on the pulse of the issues and organizations that make a difference in our region. We have developed deep expertise in local philanthropy, strengthening the region’s critical nonprofits, and identifying opportunities to create meaningful change for our community.

Congrats to Bob Buchanan (Buchanan Partners), the 2024 Montgomery County Philanthropist of the Year! ? Last night at the Celebration of Giving, we were joined by hundreds of our donors, community partners, and friends who share our vision for building communities where everyone can prosper. Together, we celebrated Bob’s philanthropy and the bold vision he brings to his work with the county's critical nonprofits. ? In turn, Bob issued a powerful call to action – committing to a surprise $250,000 challenge match for The Community Foundation’s Together, We Prosper Campaign for Economic Justice and inviting others to join him in investing in a brighter future for our region. ? "Including conversations about philanthropy when discussing estate plans is important because, for many people, a well-rounded legacy goes beyond simply dividing assets—it’s about making a lasting difference." Wallace, Esq Last week, more than 50 advisors gathered for The Community Foundation’s Professional Advisors Council Fall Luncheon to explore the value of culture and how it intersects with planning and charitable giving.
