Congrats to Bob Buchanan (Buchanan Partners), the 2024 Montgomery County Philanthropist of the Year! ? Last night at the Celebration of Giving, we were joined by hundreds of our donors, community partners, and friends who share our vision for building communities where everyone can prosper. Together, we celebrated Bob’s philanthropy and the bold vision he brings to his work with the county's critical nonprofits. ? In turn, Bob issued a powerful call to action – committing to a surprise $250,000 challenge match for The Community Foundation’s Together, We Prosper Campaign for Economic Justice and inviting others to join him in investing in a brighter future for our region. ? The Community Foundation is grateful to Bob for setting an inspiring example of what’s possible when one is committed to building communities where all people can reach their full potential. Mobilizing the power of philanthropy to build a racially equitable region where everyone prospers.
关于我们
The Greater Washington Community Foundation ignites the power of philanthropy, leads for community impact, and responds to critical community needs. For five decades, The Community Foundation has connected caring donors with nonprofits creating lasting change in DC, Montgomery County, Northern Virginia, and Prince George’s County. As the region’s largest local funder, we have invested more than $1.5 billion since 1973 to build racially equitable, just, and thriving communities where everyone prospers. Now, our strategic focus is to close our region’s racial wealth gap so that people of all races, places, and identities reach their full potential. As a community foundation, we keep our finger on the pulse of the issues and organizations that make a difference in our region. We have developed deep expertise in local philanthropy, strengthening the region’s critical nonprofits, and identifying opportunities to create meaningful change for our community.

"Including conversations about philanthropy when discussing estate plans is important because, for many people, a well-rounded legacy goes beyond simply dividing assets—it’s about making a lasting difference." With the Greater Washington Community Foundation as a resource, we’re able to offer clients the unique opportunity to make informed and impactful choices." - Megan M. Wallace, Esq Last week, more than 50 advisors gathered for The Community Foundation’s Professional Advisors Council Fall Luncheon to explore the value of culture and how it intersects with planning and charitable giving. The event also honored Megan M. Wallace, Esq. with the inaugural Nancy Fax Professional Advisor in Philanthropy Award. Over 30 years ago The Community Foundation was proud to be part of the creation of Philanthropy DMV (previously known as the Washington Regional Association of Grantmakers - WRAG) to help create a space for learning and collective action that would optimize philanthropic giving to drive prosperity, wellbeing, and racial equity and justice in the Greater Washington Region. As Philanthropy DMV winds down its operations at the end of the year, we recognize and pay tribute to its critical work as a catalyst and mobilizing force for change, collaboration, and positive growth across DC, Maryland, and Virginia. Founded in 1992, Philanthropy DMV grew to become the region’s leading philanthropic membership network of corporate grantmakers, corporate giving programs, family and public foundations, government grantmakers, and community leaders. The Community Foundation was proud to help incubate the organization in the beginning and to offer our continued support, partnership, and leadership to its efforts to convene philanthropy around key issues and community voices. We are so proud of all that Philanthropy DMV accomplished over the years to advance healthy communities, organize the Putting Race on the Table series, advocate for housing justice, and support children, youth, and families. We thank Philanthropy DMV and its members for their critical work and the lasting impact it will have towards building a more equitable and prosperous Greater Washington region.

What Drives your Charitable Giving? That was the central question yesterday at the Greater Washington Community Foundation Professional Advisors Council’s Fall Luncheon. Dien Yuen JD/LLM,CAP?, AEP? lead a highly engaging and interactive discussion of over fifty Advisors who advise clients on their estate and philanthropic planning. The objective of the PAC, which I Co-Chair with Karen Wawrzaszek CFP?, CEPA, CTFA, is to educate Advisors on the technical aspects of Philanthropic Planning as well as to advocate for the work of the Community Foundation, which is vast. Ultimately, we help advisors maximize their effectiveness with their clients, which increases the impact on our special community. Thank you to all who joined us for caring enough about your clients and the community to spend time enhancing your skills and knowledge.
