Last week, COA hosted the 3rd Annual West Coast State Policy Retreat as part of our State Legislative Leadership Program. This effort teaches practice leaders how to effectively advocate for state cancer care policy and develop relationships with local lawmakers. The retreat featured practices from 14 states, and 33 new practice leaders were welcomed into our Program. Led by James Lee, we?equipped practices with the tools to be better advocates and voices for their patients. It’s time for policymakers to protect patient access to high-quality, affordable care. The COA Prescription for Health Care Reform lays out an actionable framework to address the health care system’s flaws and prioritize patients over profits. ? Why? The U.S. health care system is at a tipping point. Consolidation, problematic middlemen, physician workforce shortages, and rising drug costs ail the health care system. Patients are the ones who suffer: many are left frustrated and without access to local, affordable care, while mega hospitals and health systems see record profits. ? Watch COA executive director Ted Okon outline the Prescription below and read more:?https://bit.ly/4h4oH8U ? #HealthCareReform #CommunityOncology #HealthPolicy

As hospitals merge and consolidate into?mega-health systems,?they?drive?up costs?and reduce choice,?without any focus on patient well-being or?outcomes. Abuse?by some hospitals in?the?340B Program—a federal program meant to serve patients in need—has allowed?them to reap profits while leaving patients with fewer options. ? This Medscape article dives into how?340B abuses harm patients with cancer and the community oncology practices that treat them. Community Oncology Alliance will continue to push Congress for needed 340B reform, such as recommendations?outlined in our Prescription for Health Care Reform. https://lnkd.in/eewSHKdE ? #340B #CancerPolicy #CommunityOncology
