Amazing night of great music and great company celebrating the Community Music Center of Boston. The staff and students shared such talent and showcased what a gem they are in the community.
Community Music Center of Boston (CMCB) is an arts education nonprofit founded in 1910, with a mission to transform lives by providing equitable access to excellent music education and arts experiences. Over 2,500 students participate in our programs every week. We are proud to act as the largest external provider of arts education to the Boston Public Schools, supporting learner-centered and culturally-inclusive musical instruction for one of the most diverse school districts in the nation. CMCB is a cornerstone for local arts education. We offer lessons and classes in our Community Music School; our Community Engagement Programs support participation in classroom music and music therapy at schools and community centers throughout Boston. Our Youth Employment Program offers well-paying jobs and opportunities for leadership development and workforce training in the arts. CMCB plays an important role in national conversations on cultural equity and creative youth development, with staff and faculty frequently featured in national forums presented by agencies like Sphinx, the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation, the National Guild for Community Arts Education, Juilliard, Carnegie Hall, and more.

Boy did we have a time last night. Thank you Community Music Center of Boston (CMCB) for the recognition. Congrats to my fellow honorees Boston District 7 City Councilor Tania Fernandes Anderson and Turahn Dorsey. Big congrats to CMCB executive director Lecolion Washington and his entire team on a fundraising record-breaking night in Roxbury at Hibernian Hall.
It’s a busy time of year, and we’re so grateful for the helping hands of our volunteers! A huge thank you to the incredible volunteers from HarbourVest’s BlackVest and Latine Association Employee Resource Groups for helping us refresh both our South End headquarters and new Roxbury location. We're so grateful for their hands-on support, from cleaning and organizing to preparing spaces for our Fall Benefit Open House! Thank you, HarbourVest for making our day brighter with another helpful day of service!
We had a blast at last Thursday's Roxbury Community Arts & Cultural Convening at Hibernian Hall! With over 100 guests in attendance, Executive Director Lecolion Washington moderated a panel centered around discussing the arts and their role in the future of the Roxbury district. Afterward, we had the opportunity to network and share resources with other local Roxbury organizations and get to know our soon-to-be neighbors in Nubian Square. Thank you to the Roxbury Cultural District for inviting CMCB to be part of this special event!
What's special about the last Wednesday in September? It's the annual gathering of CMCB's full Board and Corporation, to kick off the year and ratify our new members. And—of course, hear some great student performances and get excited about the year to come. Thanks to everyone who attended and welcome to our new board and corporation members!
Don't miss the chance to see our talented CMCB students shine! ?? Join us at 1:30 PM for a matinée performance in Symphony Hall's O'Block / Kay Room as part of the Boston Symphony Orchestra's Concert for the City. Come early, show your support, and enjoy the music! Then stay for the amazing concert to follow! With all four of the BSO’s named conductors participating and a diverse array of guest artists from the community sharing the stage, this fall’s Concert for the City offers a full afternoon of free music that celebrates and showcases the talent and traditions of Boston’s multicultural communities alongside performances by the world-renowned musicians of the BSO and Boston Pops and the extraordinary voices of the all-volunteer Tanglewood Festival Chorus (TFC).
We're ready for you! ?? Take a peek at some moments from our staff and faculty retreats ?? It feels like summer flew by, and suddenly, our Fall Semester is here! ICYMI! This July, CMCB's Lecolion Washington and Rachel Chao joined Michael Bobbitt from the Mass Cultural Council for an amazing chat with WBUR 90.9 FM's Tiziana Dearing! They dove into an innovative new Social Prescriptions program that makes arts and culture experiences available at free/low cost offerings by a doctor’s note. ?? CMCB was part of the pilot, and you don't want to miss this conversation! ?? Click the link to watch! https://lnkd.in/eEzgzSqn
