Meet our newest board member, Summer Boyd! Summer just joined our efforts this spring. When asked about herself, interest in the Kitchen and service so far, she had this to say: I am a Bloomington native, wife to my high school sweetheart, a proud mom of two teenage hockey boys, a Goldendoodle lover, a potter and a runner. For the last 12 years I have led volunteer events and philanthropic efforts through my workplace in Indianapolis. This year I realized it was time to start refocusing my time in my local community. My previous experiences with the Community Kitchen have always been positive and I was impressed with the "no questions asked" policy. Through this experience, I've had the pleasure of connecting with a dedicated, and passionate group of individuals who tirelessly commit their time year after year to support the mission of eliminating hunger in Monroe County. It's inspiring to be part of a team with such a long-standing history within the community. I knew that CK provided free meals service on-site, via the food truck, as well as, offering lunches for school children, but I was unaware of the meal delivery program for our low-income homebound seniors in the area. Come join us at Community Kitchen! We are currently looking for a Referral Specialist to provide patron support. Primary responsibility is for directly providing information and referral services to patrons at all locations, during serving time, from 4pm to 6pm. Also responsible for maintaining two patron survey programs: gathering anonymous surveys from patrons in a non-intrusive manner and compiling the results of patron surveys for grant reporting purposes. Community Kitchen is hiring! We are currently accepting applications for our Operations Manager position. Duties include ordering, maintaining, tracking and transporting food supplies, general maintenance and oversight of facilities, grounds and vehicles. Ideal candidate would have a passion for hunger relief, warehouse or food service experience, computer skills, as well as, light mechanical knowledge and general experience with tools. Exempt, full-time position with benefits. Salary $55,000. With support from United Way of South Central Indiana, Community Kitchen received a $200,000 matching grant from the Indiana United Ways Statewide Capital Projects Initiative. This grant will support rebuilding and expanding the Community Kitchen Express location in the Crestmont neighborhood of Bloomington. This location is central to reaching some of the most vulnerable members of our Monroe County community. Community Kitchen is excited to announce that we will soon be breaking ground on a rebuild of our Express location at 1101 W 11th St. in the Crestmont neighborhood. This location serves a warm carryout dinner meal from 4 - 6pm, Monday through Saturday, to anyone in need. By rebuilding this location, we can offer our patrons, volunteers, and staff a safer and cleaner facility.
