💬 #NewBlogPost: Ahead of #SuperBowlLIX and #MardiGras, Louisiana officials are relocating New Orleans’ homeless population—some forcibly—to a warehouse far from downtown. While officials claim it’s for “safety and security,” advocates argue it’s more about hiding homelessness than solving it. What’s really happening behind the scenes? And what does this mean for long-term housing efforts? Read more in our latest blog post. 📷:Jupiterimages via Canva.com #HousingFirst #SuperBowl2025 #MardiGras #HousingCrisis #HomelessnessAwareness

CHN’s staff participated in this year’s annual Point-in-Time (PIT) Count to survey individuals experiencing homelessness in Oakland and Macomb counties. The PIT Count assesses homelessness by counting individuals on the streets, in shelters, and in transitional housing. The data helps allocate funding and resources to homeless services (like CHN programs) and informs policies to address homelessness and its root causes.

Papa’s Pizza & BBQ in Pontiac was recently added to the MDHHS Restaurant Meal Program, thanks to Meghan Share, Housing Stability Coordinator and Community Engagement Intern at CHN! 🎉 The program provides certain individuals who receive Food Assistance Program (FAP) benefits with the ability to use their Michigan Bridge Card to purchase prepared food from participating restaurants. Meghan recognized that no restaurants in Pontiac were participating and decided to make a difference! “After using Papa’s Pizza on Joslyn Road for a community event, I approached the owner, Sam, about joining the RMP,” she said. “Sam was eager to support the community.” Sam & Meghan worked together to navigate the application process, and within four weeks Papa’s Pizza was approved and now accepts EBT cards, offering accessible meals to those in need! 🍕🍽️ “I’m very happy I am able to serve the community that would normally not be able to afford eating at my establishment,” said Sam. “Meghan’s assistance in the paperwork process and information of the Restaurant Meal Plan made this a smooth transition.” This initiative demonstrates the power of collaboration and advocacy in addressing food insecurity. By working together, we can break down barriers and ensure equitable access to essential resources. ❤️ #CommunityHousingNetwork #PapasPizza #FoodInsecurity #HelpingCommunities #Pontiac
