  • Please join us in welcoming Dave, a Charles River Laboratories Senior Supervisor who has taken advantage of a unique sabbatical program to spend four weeks working on our farm. His role will help to support greenhouse operations as we prepare for field planting and our annual Plantapalooza Plant Sale. He was a standout candidate to do this work and we feel exceptionally lucky to have him join our team during this particularly busy time on the farm. When he approached his manager and HR partner about applying for this opportunity, he was met with immediate support as his passion in greenhouse work fit perfectly with our needs. This week, Dave participated in harvesting 120 pounds that was immediately sent to the Worcester County Food Bank to distribute throughout the community. To quote Dave "This is what I do after work and weekends at home in my own greenhouse, I find it incredibly relaxing to grow things". Fittingly, Dave shares the bounty of his greenhouse with his colleagues at work regularly bringing in vegetables to place on the share table, a familiar model of helping others that matches exactly to the work that Community Harvest Project undertakes in a community helping community model. When asked about his initial impressions here on the farm Dave said "I love it so far, I am really excited to arrive here every morning". He also reports that he enjoys all of the staff and volunteers he has encountered as they are "nice people with a collaborative spirit." The knowledge that they impart has allowed him to learn more about plant growth and greenhouse methods which will help him at home. If you see Dave on the farm please welcome him to the team! #volunteer #community #giveback #hungerrelief #graftonma
