If you thought it was cold when you stepped outside this morning, imagine how it felt for someone without a winter coat or warm shoes. ? We all know how expensive it can be to stock up on warm clothes and outerwear to brave the brutal, Wisconsin winter. But for some, it’s an expense they simply can’t afford. ? Thanks to the Community Clothes Closet, everyone from the working poor to students, returning veterans, the homeless, older adults, and those who have emergency clothing needs because of a fire or flood, can access the clothing they need – 100% free of charge. Yesterday, team members from Community First Credit Union - Appleton Wisconsin volunteered their time to sort and prepare donated clothing for prospective shoppers who depend on the Community Clothes Closet to dress for the elements, and whatever else comes their way. The Christmas season rings in all sorts of unique activities that celebrate wonder, community, and giving, but only one involves a Battle Royale: The Salvation Army Battle of the Financials. This annual friendly competition challenges banks and credit unions to see who can raise the most money in their red kettles on one day of the year. This year, Community First team members from our De Pere, Howard, Bellevue, and Manitowoc branches went head-to-head against other area financial institutions to raise money for The Salvation Army, and the competition was fierce. We may not have won this year’s trophy, but the real win was the thousands of dollars raised (and matched by participating Credit Unions) for The Salvation Army of Greater Green Bay and Manitowoc County to support our neighbors in need. You might not give much thought to your daily ride to work, but for some, a lack of transportation resources is the reason they can’t work … at all. ? Luckily, non-profits like Feonix - Mobility Rising are stepping in to help. By coordinating the Waupaca County Catch-a-Ride (WCCAR) service, local residents are able to get to and from work until their financial situation becomes stable enough to secure their own transportation. Operated in collaboration with Waupaca County Economic Development Corporation (WCEDC) and Make the Ride Happen, WCCAR has been a critical resource for disadvantaged populations without access to affordable and reliable transportation. ? We believe everyone should have the opportunity to earn an income and improve their lives, no matter their current circumstances. That’s why we’re matching donations made to Feonix – Mobility Rising for the WCCAR through December 31, up to $10,000.
