Building Collaborative Partnerships ?? Youth-Adult Partnerships in Action To shift mindsets and foster collaborative partnerships, teams of youths and adults must recognize and reimagine existing power dynamics and privileges. Developing the skills to solve identified problems of practice is key. An organizer in a participatory budgeting project noted, “Adults don’t automatically know how to do this work. You can’t just hand people students to partner with. Otherwise, they can end up tokenizing or gatekeeping.” Creating a culture with students, not for students, involves shifting beliefs and giving youth legitimate agency to solve problems together. Let’s commit to an asset-based approach and amplify each other’s strengths to tackle difficult issues.? Up next: Cultivating Agency ?? Empowering Student Agency Agency is when someone feels empowered to take action and impact the world around them. It’s about translating desires and intentions into meaningful actions. In education, agency means creating conditions for students to show up and feel empowered. How are we enabling students to share their hopes, dreams, and opinions as we redesign learning systems? How are adults reflecting on their own privilege and learning alongside students? Let’s maximize agency and minimize the impacts of unearned privilege to create a collaborative environment for change! In August we are launching new resources that will support your journey. Next up! ?? Privilege and Power in Education Privilege often means unearned power that can be a barrier to student-powered improvement. It’s linked to social, cultural, or political norms around identity. Recognizing and addressing privilege, especially adultism, is crucial for meaningful youth-adult partnerships. Adults must disrupt biases and create conditions where youth feel empowered to share their perspectives. This shift in mindset is essential for fostering a culture of collaboration and mutual respect. Let’s work together to reimagine power dynamics in education! In August we are launching new resources that will support your journey. Sign up so you don’t miss it! ?? https://eepurl.com/iHf-uA #Education #Privilege #YouthEmpowerment #EdReform
