The mission of Communities In Schools is to surround students with a community of support, empowering them to stay in school and achieve in life. CISNC is an independently incorporated not-for-profit directed by our own board of directors representing both private and public interests in the state. CISNC assists North Carolina communities in replicating the CIS process of coordinated service delivery, supports the thirty-one local CIS organizations across the state, and advocates for children, youth, and their families. CISNC provides regional and on-site training and technical assistance, builds partnerships with state agencies and organizations to benefit young people, and serves as a resource and information center for local communities concerned about youth at risk of school failure. Communities In Schools is the nation’s largest stay-in school network, serving just over one million youth in 154 communities across the United States. CIS is providing the link between teachers and the community – by bringing caring adults into the schools and community sites to meet children’s needs. This link gives children the much-needed opportunity to focus on learning and their future. CIS National assists CISNC with training, technical assistance and network opportunities.

“The Jobs for North Carolina’s Graduates program is preparing students across North Carolina for college, certification, and to fill jobs that help keep our economy moving,” said Robert Doreauk, Executive Director of Legislative & External Affairs for AT&T. “To be joined by so many business and community leaders from across North Carolina that support this program is incredible,” said Doreauk, who is a CISNC Board Member and Chair of the JNCG Committee. Corporate supporters of the Jobs for North Carolina’s Graduates program include: AT&T, Honeywell, Bank of America, and Toyota North America. The competition also brought out representatives from Edward Jones, myFutureNC, Randolph County, NC Board of Commissioners, Greensboro Economic Development Office, Machine Specialist, Inc., Cone Health, Leon Chisolm III, and Merrill Lynch who all served as judges for the competition. In the 2023-24 school year JNCG served 447 students, of those, 100% of seniors graduated and 84% are now employed, in school, or enlisted in the armed forces. “I got involved in JNCG because of my teacher, Mrs. Stewart. She introduced me to the program and encouraged me to join. I'm really glad I did because it has helped me learn a lot about careers. It's been a great experience, and I've gained skills that will definitely help me in the future.” The winners of the JNCG Career Development Competition will travel to Indianapolis next month for the Jobs for America's Graduates (JAG) national championship. When asked about how she feels going to the national competition she said “I’m excited and a little nervous, but mostly I'm ready to take the challenge. This is a big opportunity, and I want to represent my school and myself well. I'm going to keep studying and preparing so I can do my best at the national level.” Read the article below to learn about our Jobs for North Carolina's Graduates (JNCG) program, and how CISNC prepares students for the workforce. https://lnkd.in/eNPJCnU9

Today, LS had the privilege of participating in the annual Communities In Schools of North Carolina College and Career Fair held at Nash Community College. This career fair brought around 250 students from 9 schools across Edgecombe and Nash Counties. We had a great time connecting with students getting started in their careers. It was a very engaging career fair, with many questions asked about next steps with LS! A huge thank you to Communities In Schools and Nash Community College for organizing this event, and to all the students, educators, and community partners who made today special. ????

"In middle school, my CIS coordinator taught us more than just academics. He gave us life lessons—about overcoming obstacles, making a budget, and planning for our futures. He made success seem achievable to the 20-30, 12- and 13-year-olds he taught. He was always generating thought-provoking exercises that made us genuinely think about what it meant to be successful. " --Ilianamaria, CIS Alum-- This is why #BeingPresentMatters Communities In Schools brings resources and caring people, Student Support Specialists, into schools, so our kids can succeed in the classroom and beyond.
