Each year, Chicago Public Schools hosts the Legacy of Love event for families of students who have passed away during the school year. This day aims to bring healing and strength for families who have suffered great loss. Many of the students lost have siblings, so the hosting office has put together a wish list of gifts for the siblings to receive at this event. If you are interested in contributing a gift, visit the link below. The gifts will be distributed directly to siblings at the event on December 14.?Thanks for your consideration! https://lnkd.in/gKXmdaA7

Our mission is to surround students with a community of support, empowering them to stay in school and achieve in life.
关于我们
Founded in 1988, Communities In Schools (CIS) of Chicago is a non-profit organization and affiliate of Communities In Schools, Inc., one of the nation's largest and most impactful youth-serving organizations. The mission of our organization is to surround students with a community of support, empowering them to stay in school and achieve in life. Through our two core programs - The Intensive Program and Partnership Program - we help schools and students access the support services and resources they need to overcome obstacles to learning, unlock their potential, and stay on the path to graduation. These supports are provided directly by CIS' highly trained staff as well as through our deep network of community partners. Multiple studies have shown that CIS' work, in collaboration with schools, has a positive impact on student success. During the 2023-24 academic year, CIS of Chicago will partner with 238 Chicago public schools across the city.

Visit a Chicago Public Schools building, and you’ll often experience how creativity and history meld into inspiration for the students who attend. Each school’s campus has a unique take on ways to create beautiful spaces that encourage students to succeed. This fall, CIS school partner Taylor Elementary School created its own way to inspire young people. Counselor Milton Katsaros designed a “Hall of Honor,” which highlights different Taylor Elementary alumni and the careers they have pursued. Learn more about the school's new addition -- and how our Senior School Partnership Specialist Jill Hennessy helped connect them with programs and resources that supported their career awareness initiatives. https://lnkd.in/gVFYVNzK

Anti-bullying programs and resources are consistently the No. 1 request?from the nearly 240 schools that CIS serves. In the last five years, though, the problem has only worsened by other external factors, including a global pandemic, increased feelings of isolation, and a youth mental health crisis. This October, in recognition of Bullying Prevention Month, our team has released an 18-page “Bullying Brief,” which examines current reports about the issue and provides perspectives from school administrators, community organizations, and CIS school-based team members. ???? ???????????? ?????? ???? ???????? ?????? ???????????? ?????? ?????????? ?????? ?????????? ???????????????? ?????????????? ???????? ?????? ?????? ???????? ???? ?????????????? ?????????? ????????????!

There’s a distinct energy in the room. School counselors, deans, and assistant principals are weaving in and out of the aisles. Old friends are catching up. People are introducing themselves. Chatter fills the air as program directors share their organization's unique offerings. These meaningful connections happen each year at the Resource Fair, one of CIS of Chicago’s signature events. Here's our 2024 recap:

Special thanks to Exelon and Northern Trust, who hosted our students this month for Inspiring Futures visits! Our young people had the opportunity to visit corporate offices, learn more about different career paths at these companies, and meet with their employees to discuss their goals. Inspiring Futures ???????????????? ??????????????, and we're grateful to Exelon and Northern Trust for their partnership in supporting students. The visit to Northern Trust was part of their team's month of service, and it was wonderful way to engage their team members with our work at CIS.

October is Bullying Prevention Month, and our team at CIS has released a “Bullying Brief,” which provides perspectives from school partners, community partners, and CIS school-based team members about youth bullying. Yesterday, our own Robin Koelsch chatted with Craig Dellimore at WBBM Newsradio to discuss the brief. Robin shared how our team is supporting schools and families, and she provided insights into what any adult can do to stem the issue and create safe places for our young people to thrive.
