Hurricane Milton made landfall near Siesta Key, Florida on Wednesday, October 9 as a Category 3 hurricane. ? At present, 16 storm-related deaths have been confirmed. Milton moved across the Florida peninsula and out into the Atlantic Ocean causing historic flooding, leaving a trail of damage, and power outages along the way. In celebration of #HispanicHeritageMonth, we're spotlighting Bachman Lake Together, a nonprofit serving North Texas' Hispanic community. CFT + North Texas Giving Day media partner, Dallas Doing Good, recently featured Bachman Lake Together's impact in celebration of #NorthTexasGivingDay2024. ?? Bachman Lake Together fuels generational change by empowering families, many of whom are new to the country, to become their children’s best advocates and teachers. The nonprofit, in collaboration with 50+ partner organizations, works to fully prepare children for kindergarten – academically, socially and emotionally – so they can thrive in school and in life. Its #NorthTexasGivingDay2024 campaign brought in over $12,000, which will be directly invested in early learning initiatives for Bachman Lake children. Leading up to North Texas Giving Day, CFT's Celeste Arista Glover and Bachman Lake Together's Olga Martinez Hickman, PhD were also interviewed by Telemundo 39 KXTX. Access to higher education begins with the right resources! The Texas College Access Network (TXCAN) was thrilled to be a part of the "College Festival Turn Up" hosted by VICKERY MEADOW YOUTH DEVELOPMENT FOUNDATION (VMYDF). TXCAN connected with first-generation students and their families, sharing financial aid resources and scholarship information to jumpstart their college journey. At Educate Texas, a Communities Foundation of Texas initiative, we’re committed to creating educational equity and increasing college access for all Texas students. Hurricane Helene landed late on Thursday, September 26 as a Category 4 hurricane in the Big Bend area of Florida. The tropical storm left flooding, damage, and destruction along Florida’s Gulf Coast before heading north across Georgia, South Carolina, North Carolina, and Tennessee, causing extensive damage and power outages for millions. An estimated 100 storm-related deaths have occurred across five states and more than 3 million remain without power. Our hearts are with those affected by Helene.
