I’m in Nairobi this week to speak at the Africa Media Festival hosted by Baraza Media Lab. I’ll be hosting a 90-minute workshop on Wednesday morning. If you’re attending the festival and care about the future of the media in Africa, you should definitely attend. Here are a few things the workshop will cover: 1. Why our tendency to equate media with journalism is limiting our imagination and understanding. 2. We will talk extensively about why African media companies have struggled, including one particular point no one ever really mentions. 3. Then we will outline the specific ways to build rich media companies, including a formula that’ll be so easy to remember. 4. Finally, I will share a bonus idea/framework that has taken me over 10 years to develop. I’ve never shared this publicly before until now. If you’re coming to AMF, I hope to see you.
