It's been a wonderful #ThankfulNovember at Holly Hill Healthcare Center! Congratulations to Activities Leader Temeeka Torrence for being recognized as their 3rd Quarter Care Champion! Temeeka is truly a #TrueBlue rock star and brings so much pride and enthusiasm to her role. We are incredibly grateful to have her on our team! They also kicked off the "True Blue Goes Gold" theme with homemade cinnamon rolls that had gold icing, thanks to Executive Director John Bethea. ???
With 46 residents and six team members who have served in the U.S. military, Veterans Day is a very special occasion at Greenwood Healthcare Center! This year’s celebration included a presentation that recognized each Veteran, a patriotic performance by the Greenwood High School band, and certificates, pins and desserts courtesy of Beth Ross and Maddie Funk from Gentiva Hospice. An enormous “thank you” goes to all Veterans who are also part of our CommuniCare family! Your service and sacrifice does not go unnoticed. ??
Last month, our Mountaineer Region’s leadership team participated in a retreat at Cacapon Resort State Park! The focus was on unity, purpose and blending leadership growth with collaborative goal setting and some festive fun. RDO Matt Campbell met his twin, Regional HRBP Jaime Belcastro, who embraced his favorite catchphrases. Matt also took on a new role as his counterpart, Jenn Allen. ?? Congrats to Robin Arnicar for earning the distinguished 2024 Mountaineer Spirit award! Nikki Herrick and Gynger Padgett took home accolades for the pumpkin carving contest, while Bobbie Moore and Missy Putnam dominated the cornhole tournament. Every moment was a testament to the team’s excellence and we are so proud to have them leading us to success in West Virginia! ??

In honor of Veterans Day this week, we want to introduce you to Joe Crouch, a Veteran resident at Wayne Healthcare Center since 2021. Joe is a WWII and Korean War Veteran. He is also a former NASA employee! Joe is a proud American and was honored to serve his country. At Wayne Healthcare Center, he enjoys singing and sharing stories with his friends. He has grown close with fellow residents and employees, and shared that they are like family to him. Thank you is not enough, but we are sincerely grateful for your service and sacrifice, Joe! It is truly an honor to know you.
Sellersburg Healthcare Center was happy to celebrate National Patient Transport Week with our partners at Lynx EMS! The Lynx team does an amazing job at helping us transport residents to and from appointments, as well as emergency runs. Our residents are happy to have them and shared that they are always kind and caring. Thank you, Lynx EMS, for everything you do!
For many years CommuniCare has offered our Honor 360 program at numerous centers, including those that are contracted with VA hospitals, to provide long-term care for Veterans. This year, we are ecstatic to introduce our Director of Veteran Programs and Services, Cheryl Hammons! She will lead our Honor 360 program and strengthen its services, resources and support available to Veteran residents. Cheryl is an experienced home care professional, published author and speaker with over 16 years of experience in the industry. Most recently, she spent five years with Veterans Care Coordination, where she focused on customer service and support, developing programs, and creating educational resources for home care partners. Cheryl is the author of Embracing a New Normal: Dealing with Grief and Respecting Religious Differences in Home Care. When asked about her new role, Cheryl shared, "I’m thrilled to be joining the CommuniCare family. This opportunity allows me to build on the great work already underway in our facilities. Honoring our Veterans and their surviving spouses will bring not only joy to them and their families but also benefit the community at large. This program will highlight why our facility is the best choice for their care. Above all, I’m committed to ensuring that every Veteran has access to the resources they’ve earned and reminding them how deeply grateful we are for their service."
